i read that beagles can't be left alone for long period of hours coz they tend to be destructive and neurotic and is advised to have a playmate. since i live alone & it is not possible for me to be with my dog often. my question is, if i get another dog of a different breed will this be a solution so she would not go nuts or i should get one of the same breed? will appreciate your help, thanks! :)
Unfortunately friend or not, Beagles are simply very active, easily bored, destrcutive as young dogs, escape artists, and bayers.
They take alot of time, training, patience, excercise and well planned out play areas ( buried fence, top corners covered or concrete runs) left out unattended for short periods will set them into escape mode and they are very good at it, lol.
A playmate will not change who the dog is, just give you a second dog to train.
My cousin had a beagle and a lot of attention had to be set for the dog. He ended up giving it up to me and my Aunt who raised it for about 7 years after that. They are very destructive dogs. Everytime we trained it not to do something it would find something else to do. From chewing shoes, to throwing couch pillows onto the floor, to running away, to taking and hiding the remote. But anyways i agree with the previous post. adding another dog will just add more training you will need to set forth. One beagle required a lot of time and energy already. Just ask your self "Do i have time?"
Just think about, would you rather have a bond with your dog or would u rather have ur dog have a dog companion..
If you have not already got the dog, I would suggest finding another breed. Not a puggle either. They can be just as bad as a beagle. We see them in the kennel, and we do daycare for a puggle. they will eat anything they can, shred anything they can get there teeth on. The best advice I could give is if you have an unfinshed basement, put up a 6'X10' run or kennel for when you are not home. They when you get home, prepare for playtime or a good run.
