So I want to get Ace fixed when he is 6 months old. My vet talked to me about it when Ace was there for his 3rd shot on tuesday & he recommends I get it done when he is 6 months. So I could get it done at the vet's office or at the shelter near my house for $30. Obviously the shelter would be waaaay cheaper. But would the process not be as good at the shelter? I would not mind spending the extra at the vet's office but if the procedure is just as good at the shelter then I might as well pay only $30. Does anyone have some advice please?
At our shelter, spays/neuters on all stray animals are done at the Veterinary School that is in our home town. The animals are used as teaching animals to teach the senior surgical students (under the close supervision of hte veterinary professors of course). I'm sure the quality of care is largely the same but for me personally I'd rather go with my vet that I know and trust, even if it's a little more expensive. besure that whatever you decide, that you get preanesthetic testing done on the dog! I am not sure the shelter woudl provides that service
Ok, thanks for the respones. Ive still got time to think about it since Ace is only 3 months right now. And Ill definately have the pre-anesthesia test...I think I read on this board before that chi's are more prone to complications to anesthesia. Anyways, thanks for the respones!
