I have an American Bulldog that is pregnant. According to the calculations from the last time she was bred she was due to have her pups yesterday. As of this morning she had not had them yet. How long can they go over their due date without getting concerned?
The best thing to do is to take her temperature at the same time eveyday. Usually, but not always, the temp will drop to 99 degrees within 12-24 hours of giving birth. Also, this can be a false pregnancy. They can really fool you if you don't sonogram or x ray, the main symptom is going long over the due date. They bag up, get a big belly the whole ball of wax and then the due date comes and goes and in a week or so you go to the vet and oops...nothing in there. However, I will assume this is a real pregnancy.. I wouldn't let her go much over a week. Sometimes they will go 65 days and that's ok. DO NOT ATTEMPT TO INDUCE LABOR WITH PITOCIN OR OXYTOCIN WITHOUT A VET'S OK. But probably nothing to worry about. If you have her mother, find out how many days she went, alot of daughter's reproductive systems are the same as mom's, but also not always. good luck and if you have questions, PM me.
