I inherited my daughter's 1 yr old mini aussie when her new baby arrived. Check by my vet indicated he's fine and healthy. he's very active and playful. Problem is he weighs 12#. He had been on Wellness puppy food, dry and canned. We started him on dry Science Diet puppy food, 19% fat. He seems to like it, but eats only about 3/4 cup/day. I don't want to feed table scraps or lots of canned food, but he's way too thin and needs to put on a few pounds...any suggestions? Thanks in advance, AK
Alot of Aussies are just like that. I have had several both Mini's and full sized that don't put any weight on til they are much older. One of my fill sized girls was 8 before she really started gaining much weight. I don't worry about it. I have found the higher protein food can make them hyper, and don't care to feed them alot of fat.
I let the dogs free feed, and if they stay thin so be it. They know how much food they need to be happy.
