We have Ragdoll cats. My youngest girl has never had kittens yet, but every time she comes in heat we have a week of crazy yowlering! I know this is somewhat normal but she is worse than any of my other girls. Is this something we will have to endure once a month for the rest of our lives or is there something I can do to get us a little peace. Poor girl, i know it's just a "cat thing" but its driving me up the wall. Thanks for any help
well, that would be my solution too if I did not raise the Ragdolls as a "hobby breeder". i was just wondering if any other breeders have anything to say. Is this just more intense in some of your queens than others, or is there anything you do for them during this time. We are planning to breed her in the fall when she is a little older.
I kinda figured you were a breeder. It is unusual to hear someone who doesn't breed complain about it. I am not a cat person, but my guess would be probably not. I breed mini aussies, and some males and whine and be more persistant then others. It is a pain in the butt, but something we all have to deal with.
I don't know anyone who breeds cats so I want to ask you a question Misty ........ How on earth can you stand the stench of an unneutered male cat(s) in your house ? I could not wait to get my boy fixed because he stunk to high hell. Even after he was neutered he stank for a couple of weeks. I couldn't stand to have him anywhere near me and I swear I could smell him on my clothes after he got up from sleeping on me. And it's not just them that stink their urine reeks too. I work in a vets office and some mornings when you walk into the hopsital you can tell as soon as you open the door that there is an unneutered male cat somewhere in the hospital the urine stink is so pronounced.
I just always wondered how cat breeders can do it .... living with the smell all the time.
Hi, I raise Persians as a hobby breeder and have always had my cats/kittens in the house, and I can tell you that is one of the worst parts! Definitely some queens are much worse. My best breeder and prettiest persian is the worst yowler...and she always waits until dark to start! My other queen will just quietly whisper little meows which is quite tolerable, if not cute!
I don't think there is anything much you can do. We have a separate large room for our cattery, so I just try to keep her in there when it is bad. Sometimes it has helped if my husband yelled at her in the middle of the night to be quiet! :) But, of course it was bad to have gotten him to yell in the first place!!
You may want to be prepared...some cats stay in heat until bred, and my experience has been when they experience their first "heat" that they can be "in" for two weeks and out only for one before starting all over again....and again...and again. If you go ahead and breed her now, you should have kittens for Christmas!...and your sanity. :)
Only thing to stop the yowling is to spay her also females will start peeing like on you bed and other things in the house this starts the marking then everyone will do it the only way you can breed cats and live in a clean home is to have facilitys for your cats that are unspayed or unneutered, The more she roams the more she will yowl contain her in a pet taxi it wil help maybe
not all unfixed cats pee onthe floor that has to do with more of a domiante territorial issue.
My sister has a siamese when she sin heat She meows usually inthe evening and night all night threw. They actually just put a raido on for the cats n they helpthe cat sto sleep. sadly her cats heats last for 2 weeks. She is ahobbyy breed and only permits a liter bi yrly or so. She doesnt let them breed unless she already has the non refundable deposits down for the kitties prior tothe heat. to prevent unwanted kittens to be without a home. As well as her kitties dont go till 3-4 months of age and usually are FIXED before placed. As a hooby breeder she includes spays and vet care into cat cost.
Depending on the breed some cats even yowel after fixed. just not as lout toned
it doesnt bother me so much as the 1s who meow extreamly loud and are fixed. lol sleeping at her home it actually helps me sleep (i'm odd i cant help it)
