my 1 1/2 year old female Bull Mastiff gets aggressive when she is near some other dogs, male or female. My friend has her brother and 99/% of the time they are together they play fine once in a while she will pin him down and growl at him. she will lung at other dogs she is near so I always have her on a leash when other dogs are around. What steps do I take to get her to stop? Her father was a Bull Mastiff and her mother was an Italian mastiff
take her on a leash and if you see a dog go across the road or be apart at least 5 meters or so.If she dosnt growl or bark then praise her and give her a treat,if she dose bark and lunges then scold her and say firmly NO.Keep doing that and each time she dosn't bark twice in a row close the gap in.Keep closing the gap in until your next to the dog.Tell me if it works!!
Your dog regardless of breed sounds like a very nervous dog. I would also bet money that she bit both you and your daughter out of fear. If you reach, grab or advance to fast towards a nervous/fearful dog you risk a "fear bite". Fear bites are the most common reason people are bitten by dogs. I know your thinking how can she fear us we love her, but in that moment she felt threatened and you just didn't get the memo she was sending.
