getting another puppy. My hubby wants a JRT. He had one before. He knows what to expect from one. I only experienced a JRT when I found one for 2 days. I feel in love with her. How do you think this would work with Toby? Too hyper for Toby? Is Toby still too young? Will Toby freak out about another puppy or welcome the company? Help? Hubby's birthday is coming up on November and the thought of surprising him with a pup is attractive.
if toby is doing well i think you'd be ok. we just got another one and snowball was 13 mos old when we got him. best, i think, to get them, as they are both still puppies and then they will have a ready made playmate! but remember, you are starting from scratch on housebreaking, teething, crating, etc. if you are going to pick one for hubby as a surprise be sure to take toby along with you!! you may want to get a female, as you will have less alpha problems. i have only known 2 jrt- one is a psycho and bites everyone, and one was the calmest smartest dog in our puppy class! the only difference i notice with 2 instead of 1 is twice the chewies! but they play well together and i'm glad we got him. i am pretty sure the general reply you'll get here is go for it! this isn;t a place where it is discouraged to have more dogs... :)
Toby is a 4lb. Maltese/Pom 9 month old pup. He is very outgoing. Afraid of nothing. I think a playmate might be wonderful for him. He wants so bad to always play with other dogs. I realize all about the puppy stuff we will have to go through again. Toby is doing pretty well. That was good advice to bring him to pick out a pup. What should I look for? One that gets along with him? A female is probably a good idea too.
Yeahhh Toby gets a friend. That is cute! It is sad when you see on www.petfinder.org they can't separate animals because they are bonded and lifemates. Many times they are different breeds but simply adore each other even sleeping with their paws around each other. Cheers to you, Toby, your hubby and a new pup!
Your so lucky your husband want's another. Mine would never. that is the breed my husband wanted to get but I hear they tend to be hyper and my kids are still fairly little. Toby would love to have a brother or sister. But I also hear that having two of the same sex dogs can be rough. Would you consider a female?
I guess you'll know what my opinion is :) Go for it. you got some great suggestions as far as getting the opposite sex, taking Toby with you, etc. I'm sure it will be fine. If he enjoys playing with other dogs, I don't imagine you would have a problem. Let us know what you decide.
Aisha...good point...if there have been any problems here it is usually between Molly and Pugs. Nothing serious or abnormal, but Pugs tends to be the mother hen and Molly thinks she is the boss. But they have never really fought or anything. They just snap at each other occasionally.
Allright guys, I will get a tie for hubby and a playmate for Toby. I'll have to give it some serious thought. Toby is like the littlest kid in the neighborhood who stares out the window all day seeing all the big kids playing and can't play too because he is too small. It's so sad. He really does need a buddy. or buddette in this case. His stuffed dog gives him no response. It just lays there.
lol wendy. Think about it. Do you like that breed. I honestly think they are cute! A little on drugs at times but really cute. All puppies are hyper so I would not worry. And Toby sitting there looking out the window: :(
Yes Aisha, I fell in love with a JRT that I found and had for two days. Her name was Daisy. Hubby used to have one before I met him named Scooter. And poor little Toby, you are right. Our front door has a big oval shaped long window that he can see out of if he stands on his hind legs and puts his little front paws right on the edge of it. He looks so pathetic.
If we do decide to definitely get one, I will look for a girl. I think I will name her Lily after my Grandma who passed away last November. That was the name I had picked out for my puppy when I got Toby. He was a boy and I couldn't call him Lily.
I say go for it! My neighbors have two Jack & Jill they come over to visit from time to time and they are hyper little things but they get along great with my kids and dogs. I swear they could do flips for hours though!
