Way to go Allie. Great job. And hey, I really wasn't kidding about your t-shirts. Let us know how/when we can get them. Have a good day! The chocolate one is my absolute favorite. Why did the rat terrier bite? That must have been devastating. The chocolate looks as if it knows it's eye is damaged and as if it is not as beautiful anymore like maybe a self esteem issue. Are you turning its face that way or does it do it subconciously. She is my favorite. I am really sensitive about dogs so I am probably just getting strange. Ohh, I feel like crying now. That chocolate is gorgeous! That color is hard to find!
Gina: On her dogster page she has other pictures of dogs. There is one called Hershey's Kiss. She says in the comments Hershey's was bitten in the head as a puppy by one of her rat terrier. Hershey is the only chocolate poodle. Chocolate anything is hard to get your hands on. I like that dog the best and her color is pretty. In her pictures she appears to be looking at the camera from her undamaged eye as if she knows one side is her good side. The photos made me cry. She is really quite striking.
mls, she's my favorite of the bunch. She's over two but acts like 6 months. She loves to play with Lily the other standard, the toys, the puppies. Why did our terrier bite her? I wish I new. He's a male, neutered, rescued from the humane society. He was our "Cuties" soulmate named "Handsome" (pretty corny huh!) He had caught a couple of opossums and a bird in our back yard before it happened. I had asked once on here if a dog can acquire a taste for blood and I was told no. The second day we had Kisses my wife had gotten up before me. I got up and found my wife sitting in the kitchen with kisses in her arms crying and blood all over. It was like she was in shock. They had been outside, she heard a cry and that's what she found. We took her immediately to the vet. She wasn't tore up, but as you probably know the head bleeds a lot. The one puncture was in the temple of the left eye. We brought her home. As she got better, there was a lot of swelling in the eye. It has gotten a lot better. It used to point way to the left, but it has centered most of the way. I generally don't post pictures showing her left eye because people would go "Jeez...what's wrong with your dog." She's actually very nice, conformation wise. She's always been a problem eater. She can go a couple days without eating. We've had tests run on her but they say that physically there is nothing wrong with her. Someone suggested giving her anti-gas medicine *yeah! she was gassy all right) that maybe the gas was causing her to feel full. We do, and now she's eating better and has on some weight. Our Lily weighs 55-60lbs. Kisses weighs 30-35 lbs. Same height. She lacks nothing in self-esteem. She is the life of the party. She loves everyone. She's my goofy girl! Sorry to go on so long, but I don't get to talk about Kisses very often. Thanks for the kind comments about her. LTLGTO
Scout1, we decided at the time that it would not be safe for our other dogs to keep Handsome. (we had toy puppies due and felt we could not take the chance) We took him to a Rat Terrier rescue in Portland, OR. He was found a home in the Tacoma area of Washington. His mom is a teacher at a private school. He gets to go to class with her everyday. During recess time he gets to come out of his kennel and play with the kids. They all love him. She told us he did have an incident with one child getting bit in the hand, but the story from the other kids that were around pretty much said the child that was bit was being mean to him. He was the soulmate to our Cutie who passes almost a year ago when she slipped her collar at the vets parking lot. They are right next to the highway and she went straight to it. My wife screamed to call her back, and she was hit by a car as she came back. My wife watched it happen. She called me at work and I rushed over. She was already gone when I got there. They let us stay there in the room with her for over 1/2 hr. I had to go back to work, and my wife has to stop by my sons work and tell him. The loss of Cutie was devastating. It is very hard to write this at work! She was very special to us, as I'm sure everyone here feels the same for their pets. I was on the petloss forum for a while. That is where I first heard about the Rainbow Bridge. I have a memorial page for Cutie on my website that I will never remove. Sorry to go on so long. LTLGTO
i am sorry about cutie. i am glad that handsome found a good home. i know how devastating it is to lose a pet. i have seen you suggest that pet loss forum many times. i could never go there. i would be too upset reading everyone's stories. and that rainbow bridge poem, forget it. just thinking of it makes me weepy. i sure do hope it is true though.
Yeah Scout1, it is a hard site to be on. My wife wondered why I had tears in my eyes every time I was on the computer. It's a heart wrenching place, but it gives you a place to go in a time of grief. I plan to go their for Cuties 1 year anniversary next month. I would catch my wife on our memorial page for Cutie quite often, but she is Korean and does not let her emotions show very often. Did you see the picture on Cuties page of her and Handsome in the chair? They were together always. Getting misty eyed at work again, sooo.... time to move on to another subject. Thanks for the kind words. ltlgto

ltlgto...............I can count on one hand the times I have seen my husband cry since we have been married, and that is a lot of years. One of them was when Cricket had a broken leg. I had a real hard time finding someone that could fix it, plus it was over Labor Day weekend. I took her to the second vet, and when I brought her home I just sat in my driveway crying. My husband came up and asked me what was wrong I told him that the other vet said it could not be fixed, and that it would grow back crooked, and the best thing might be to put her to sleep. We brought her into the house and my husband said, "WE WILL NOT put this baby to sleep, she is part of us." This is the same guy that asked me why I wanted a Yorkie in the first place. We had never had a real small dog. He absolutely adores Cricket. It just goes to show you how these babies can bring out a part of you that you may not even know exists. We paid a small fortune, but we did get Cricket's leg fixed. I was reading what you said about your Poodles to Scout, plus the stories of your wife and the newborn and the tragic ending at the vet. Any one of these things would have been hard, but all of them have to be really hard to recover from. You would have to have a heart of stone not to be effected. I am just sorry that the two of you have had to experience any of it. Scout...........I had never heard of "Rainbow Bridge" until my friend Jeanie on TP told me about it. I was joking around with her telling her she didn't know what she was talking about. Then I did some research, actually I found it on AKC's website. I read just enough to know that Jeanie did know what she was talking about, and it was too sad for me.
Ltlgto: Thank you for sharing. That was beautiful. I really love Hershey's Kisses. I am fascinated with the chocolates. I love chocolate labs too. The ones with light eyes are breathtaking. The color is just so hard to find. Because I think the demand may be for lighter colors. I hate when they "bleed a breed". That is what I call it when the breeders dilute the natural colors. Like in the goldens. Now they are as buff as a cocker spaniel. Blondes I think they call them. I don't like it at all but "demand" demands it. What is the pet grieve website link? I need it for my grief of Mei Ling. I am scared to death to get another dog cause I really missed Mei Ling. Putting a dog to sleep is really really hard. I cry sometimes even now. I finally moved some of her things but it is just really difficult. Maybe because the rescue agency named her Cupcake but I changed her name to an Asian one and she responded immediately. I just called her Mei Ling and she would come. It was strange. I hate the day I had her spayed. I think it was too soon and I think she picked up distemper or the spay aggravated what she already had in her system. I am not sure but you are right it is very very difficult. I hope she knows I loved her. It hurts because she was in the B Ward. Meaning no longer available for adoption getting ready within an hour to be euthanized. The animal tech scooped her out of the cage and gave her too me and we walked out. I won't get started on the Miami Dade County Animal Shelter and their mistreatment of animals. That place is awful. (THEY SUCK AND I HOPE THEY ROT IN *)(@#$)@#$*)! I still have her dog food and I don't know I want another dog but have decided to try a kitten because cats live so long. In an city I used to live in a neighbor's cat was like 19 when she finally just stopped breathing.
