Diamond Food Is great. We feed roxy diamond brand puppy food. Its very natural and healthy for your dogs, but some may not like it as much as other dog foods becasue most dogs probably prefer the more treat meaty type of food. We just feed her diamond becasue thats is what her breeder reccomended and feeds all her dogs.
I have used Diamond dog food for my weimaraners before and I was not impressed. They inhaled it and it didn't seem to stay with them. I have switched to using Science Diet for puppies and adults. They don't eat as much. Their coats are beautiful. They look and act much happier. There isn't as much clean up and what is there is easier to clean up because it is more solid. Because you have a large breed dog you need to make sure they are getting proper nutients for their joint development. Science Diet really is the best dog food out there. It may cost a little more but it really is about the same by the time you get all its benefits. You can also go to their website and get coupons and find out area dealers for it. You can then do price shopping. I get mine at a farm store and they run it on sale on occasion so I just stock up. Hope this helps a little.
I've been feeding my Saint Bernard puppy Diamond dog food. I didn't know what to choose because I've had mostly cats as pets my whole life. Should I switch to another brand since he's a large breed? Thanks for any info.
I raise Saint Bernards, we feed all of our adults and puppies Diamond Dog Food Products. They do very well on it. I do believe that this breed does very well on this type of food. All of our dogs are huge, and very healthy; not to mention that they have a gorgeous coat.
I would not wish Science diet on anybody. IF you had ANY idea what commercial dog food is made from it would make you sooo sick!! And that one is one of the HIGHEST in trace amounts of euthanized animals! Diamond is wonderful I feed this too all my dogs and they SHINE!! any ALL Natural dog food is good for your dog. PLEASE dont feed garbage commercial dog food.
Top of the line Diamond is okay...but read the ingredients on all the dog or puppy food you choose. There are a LOT of them out there with large amounts of 'fillers' (corn, wheat, soybeans) in them. Also numerous brands use chicken by-products or poultry by-products instead of the real lamb, chicken, poultry or salmon meal canines NEED. By-products include, but are not limited to feathers, heads, feet,etc....all the things which are quite undigestable or have little to no nutritional value. These items technically raise the protein level in the food, but can't be used by the canine's body as nutrition. To be a good digestible, nutritous food for your pet the first five ingredients should have no by-products or 'fillers' listed. Examples of brands with 'fillers' and/or by-products in them are: Iams, Science Diet, Eukanuba, Purina, Sprout, Tuffys, Ol Roy, Pedigree, etc. Some or all of their varieties included! Some of Diamond's line also uses these ingredients.....PLEASE read the ingredients, on the label of the bags. Some examples of high quality canine food are Royal Canine, Sensible Chioce, Chicken Soup by Diamond, Premium Edge, Nutro, Maximum Nutrition (available at Walmart), etc. However, dog food companies also change their formulas occasionally and generally don't advertise it, especially if they cheapen the quality. So read the ingredient label about every six months, just to make sure you are still feeding a high quality food to your family member (pet) or breeding canines.
Pearl this is from that link you provided. It doesn't have feathers but it does have lots of other nasty stuff.
Poultry By-Product - Clean parts of slaughtered poultry, such as heart, lungs, liver, kidneys, feet, abdomen, intestines, and heads and must not contain feces or foreign matter except that which is unavoidable and then only in trace amounts.
Poultry By-Product Meal - Made up of ground, rendered, and clean parts of slaughtered poultry, such as undeveloped eggs, necks, feet, and intestines. It does not contain feathers except those which are unavoidable during processing.
Pearl I agree I dont think organ meat and bone is bad at all but I personally don't like the idea of feeding feet, heads, and underdeveloped eggs. People eat organs too like liver and gizzards so I am sure organs are fine but I don't want to feed mine anything that I know I would never eat.
Ok and by-products have heads and feet which would include beaks and toe nails.
