I have never had a dog that burped before, and it's not something that comes up in casual conversation, so please forgive me if I sound like an idiot. My dog, Kicho lets out human type burps after she finished eating. Is this normal? She doesn't "wolf" down her food, she takes her time and chews every piece of kibble. Anybody else have a burping dog?
My Shih Tzu burps after every meal; however, she eats very fast and swallows air. It doesn't bother me. On the contrary, I find it funny. I don't see why it's not normal - air gets swallowed and comes out again in the form of a burp. If your dog eats fast as well, maybe put a tennis ball in her food bowl when you feed dry food. By doing that it will slow down her food consumption, hence less burping?
Well, Kicho doesn't eat fast, so I don't think that's it. I just have never had a dog that burps, and I have had a lot of dogs in my lifetime, so I wondered if it was unusual. It is sort of funny, especially since she is a small dog, letting out such HUGE burps!
I too have a burper and it really does sound like a human. My female is a gulper so I was just putting it down to that. it is quite funny actually . My kids will wait for her to finish eating so they can hear her burp!! They think it is hilarious! We just laugh and say I guess she is complementing the cheff!!hahaha
Both of my dogs burp at time. And just like scout1 said, mine also wait until they are right in your face to let the burp out. Both of my also had hiccups when they were puppies. From what I understand, they get hiccups because they are swallowing more air while they eat or drink.
Molly and Bruce, my friend's Irish Setters are notorious face-burpers. Molly is the worst. Her favourite thing after ambushing me with an armpit wash in cold water and slobber, is to nibble on my chin ever so gently, kiss it equally politely, then put out this big ol' smelly burp right up my nose. I think it's just the dog, Molly is 5 years old and she has been doing it for 4 of them. My friend very seldom sticks with the same dog food for more than 6 months on end, so I would imagine she has probably been on a good percentage of the higher quality foods available, nothing seems to change it. I like to think that we like our friends, not in spite of their faults but because of them. That is part of what makes them who they are no matter if they have 2 legs or 4 .
Yes, my dog Crystal burps occasionally, and even hiccups more often than that, but it's the farts that are the worst! She'll come up right next to me and plop down while I'm on the computer and I swear let's out the loudest fart that puts my husband to shame, and he is a very notorious farter! And oh God the smell.....anyways, I'll just drop this subject :)
