My puppy Toby I just got him 7 days ago and since we got him he pooped blood we didn't think he would keep pooping it. He is a purebred cocker spaniel puppy and is adorable and I hope this is nothing severe. We are going to take him to the vet tomorrow and hopefully there is nothing wrong with him and this poop bleeding can stop.
If anything can someone please give me advice about the poop bleeding and if you know anything about this situation please explain to me the terms in what to do.
Is your puppy acting listless, constantly sleepy? Suffer from poor appetite? IMHO anytime a dog poops blood, it is time to take it to the vet's office *immediately*. So many things can be wrong, and if it's parvovirus, your puppy could die within 24 to 48 hours of showing extreme symptoms. It could be a sign of a long term worm infection like hookworms. WHere'd you get your puppy from, what kind of conditions was it in? I hope it came iwth a health guarantee.
It could be a few things. Bring him to the vet. First thing could be a stressed system (guardia) may need Albon from the vet. Could be worms, could be he swallowed something that scratched the inner linng of the colon, or perhaps parvo. Have him checked.
my cocker spaniel puppy had a bit of that problem.. I noticed some blood in her stool, so at first I though I was giving her the wrong food. So I went out and bo ught a 10lb bag of purina one puppy chow (at first I could only find purina puppy chow). And that didn't work so I set up a vet appt the next day
The vet told me that she had either a slight problem in her intestine (that she just needed some meds), OR an intestine problem that humans could get as well. So they tested her and what not. Thank heaven it was just a very slight malfunction in her intestines. We gave her the meds and she is fine.. In fact the little stinker is on my lap right now...
Good thing your taking him to the vet, because my chihuahua had the same thing, so we took her to the vet, they told us that if we didn't take her to the vet then she wouldv'e died. When we saw her in a cage with fluids we started crying, she couldn't even get up. Now she's 5 yrs. and living happy.
Mima, i have been going through so much with the same thing! one vet i took my baby to told me that it was just the intestinal lining and switched his food-she's a dumbass. then i took him to another vet, did more tasts, specific tests to check his pancreas and intestinal wall flora, what he found was that my boy had small intestine bacterial overgrowth. the poor boy has had it since i got him, his stools were never solid, always soft or diahrrea. the old vet just tested for worms or giardia(and that was after i was pushy about it). she found nothing, so she did nothing. you have to be proactive and if you arent happy with the answer of one vet, go to another one. My boy,Coach, has been put on Tylacin and Metro, vet changed his food to LoRes, from Eukanuba. it helps with tummy and intestinal problems. he is doing much better. i wish you luck and i will pray for the best.
