That is why you will see a lot of people on here pushing people to adopt from their local shelter. When they come on here looking for a mixed breed (designer dog) or wanting a dog for little money.
You will find that most of the people on here have rescued pets, or animals from the shelter. Plus there are those of us that also foster for shelters or rescue groups.
Some of us also have animals from breeders.
I my self have 4 dogs from breeders, one a rescue. Another rescued dog. Two other dogs that came from the shelter back home.
Three cats from my local shelter and all my other cats that we have had were all rescues. Exept my first two cats. The first one came from the female cat across the street from my aunts that breed with their male cat. Then the second one came from a friend that had a litter of kittens.
I also got one of my parekeets from a shelter.
So unless you are looking for a very specific breed and are will to pay the price for one.
The best and most frequent advice your going to get is to check out your local shelter for a pet that needs a home.
So it does get adopted and not become a satictic.

Also, up keep on a dog is not cheap. So I don't quite get the cheap dog wanted angle you're going for here. Whether it's free or not you still have to afford vet care etc. There are lots of healthy pure & mix dogs at shelters that get turned in for many reasons....owner died, owner too ill to take care of any longer, owner moving overseas can't take dog etc.... Oh & yes many of us have adopted from the shelters & or rescue groups.

we all forgot, many of us here not only share our home with rescue/shelter dogs, but many of s are active as well. volunteering fora breed rescue (me) volunteering at the local shelter, donating to the local pound food and supplies etc. so asking for a cheap/free dog is not gonna get a whole lotta love 'round here.
fff where do you live? Wouldn't you feel good if you knew that YOU rescued a dog from a pound or shelter or humane society. Even if it does make you sad and depressed to be there for a little while isn't saving an animal worth it? Come on, have a heart and by the way there are no UGLY dogs!
