I'm a HUGE preventative medicine person. I would much rather pay for the pill once a month than have to pay to have my dog treated for heartworm - and watch them suffer through it. So yes, I have all 25 of my dogs on Interceptor year round. I actually think it's easier for me, because Interceptor also covers several other kinds of worms which saves me having to worm my dogs with another wormer as well. I think it's just a smart thing for a pet owner to do. And my dogs think the pill is a treat and actually get excited for it when that time of month rolls around!
No I don't start Interceptor until 4-5 months old. I have 25 dogs over 4 months. Some are rescues and some are breeders. We don't start our puppies on heartworm preventative unless we end up keeping one for an extended period for some odd reason.
well i don't know who your vet is but my vet recommeds to start on hw prevention from the first time you take them to the vet. you may want to get a second opinion because your puppy could have heart worms and you nit even know it .
My dogs are on heartgard. I have heard of Interceptor it is the same thing just a different brand name? Heartgard covers other worms also that is why I like it.
Oh and my vet also had me put all my puppies that I bought on heartgard right away and they were only 12 weeks old some 8 weeks. Maybe there is a difference between heartgard and interceptor? Just wondering.

no you should be able to start intcepter as young as 8 weeks old. because it does not matter how young they are thy can still get heartworms. the only thing tha that matter about the ingrdiants is the doseage of the ivermectan that they put in the pill. if the pill was gonna mess with the puppies stomach or harm it then the vets would not recommed it for sale.
