i really love my dog, but does he always have to be at my side, it is so hard to do anything even cook dinner, he is constantly at my side at my feet, is this normal for a lab pitt mix? my husband is very good to him, and even my neighbor is good with him, but if i leave to go somewhere my dog will go into his pen and will not come out untill i get home? whats wrong with him?
I don't have an answer for you,I just wanted to tell you I know how you feel. My Shadow (was his name when I got him...HMMM) is the same way .I love him too, but sometimes I need a break from it. In the morning I drink my coffee while on the puter and Shadow has to be on my lap!!!!
Some humans have discovered that they actually have a third leg. This third leg can appear in the form of a dog. Be glad that you only have one leg, as that I have about 4 extra.
Beyond that, work on your sit, stay, or "out the kitchen" commands to free up space, but understand that some dogs need, and some dogs are clingers. If he is not suffering seperation anxiety then he loves you and that is that. I have dogs that sleep *on* me at night beucase they just enjoy the closeness, but I enjoy breathing so they are banned from the bedroom most of hte time.
I know what you are saying. Bessy is always under my feet. She is the size of a horse and she will come in the kitchen when I am cooking and make me walk over her. She lays that huge body in the middle of the floor and won't move. I know I have not realized she is there sometimes and walked on her, and fell a couple of time too. Oh Bessy!
my frenchies are the same way. they can be in a deep sleep, but if i go into another room they both appear at my feet. like two little shadows. i have gotten used to it now so i am very careful walking around the house. my female frenchie even jumped into the bathtub with me, so they are banished from there at bathtime. i had to draw the line at that one. lol
Awww... He Loves You... a lot. Your obviously his anchor… his world … his everything~ Pitties are very affectionate and some very needey. My 2 are . Bruce will follow me everywhere… and wine if I go get the mail waiting by the door till I return. Cricket is more attached to my Hubby… follows him and talks for attention. . At bed time they HAVE TO BE TOUCHING us all night.
geez is that unusual lol! I always type one handed cause as we speak I'm sittin here with Tsion on my left shoulder. He edits my post between chewing my hair and licking my ear. Then he looks over my shoulder at the mirror and growls at his reflection.
All our dogs stick to us like glue. I happen to like it . Makes me feel really loved. You can always take him to obedience class and can teach him commands but won't that break his heart to be away from his mama? awww sniff
My pup is the same way. It's me follows around the house, and it's me she comes to when she she wants to to go outside or play. Basically, it's me for everything. Just one day, I'd like my husand to know what it's like ... LOL.
our dog salty is like that also. i get tired of walking and then stopping and having a nose poke me right in the butt lol. i feel sorta bad for getting mad at her because she is a foster dog and i think sometimes she is still just trying to fit in but at times it is really irritating lol.
omg dusty, he has even jumped in the tub with me, but he is fifty pounds, and he enjoyed it, and i cant get him to stay out, ive tried everything including locking him up, but my dog is really smart at excaping and he knows how to open all our doors, the bathroom doesnt lock.... i love him soo much, but im pregnant and need some space
i too have a velcro puppy! moose follows me EVERYWHERE. if i am at the computer he is on my lap, if i am at the table he sits at my feet ( he never begs, just lays on my feet). if i am cooking he sits between my feet and the stove, part of me thinks he is hoping something will fall :) as soon as i put the baby in the car seat he is at the door knowing we are going for a ride and if i go to get something out of the car he jumps right in. i have gotten use to it and am growing to like it acturally. the only time he isnt right on top of me is at night, then he sleeps on his pillow on my side of the bed.
Sometimes I have a trail of three or four of them following me around cleaning or cooking, even when I try to go to the bathroom.
Lately it has been Owen, Sadie, Moonshine (sometimes but very rarely October). I don't mind until I start to trip over bodies and can't get the things done that I need to. Then, the kitten goes in the "playpen". The dogs get their "occupy me" toys, and mom baby gates herself in the room she is cleaning.
If it bothers you, there are things you can do like teach the dog a sit/stay. Give them a toy like a kong that will keep them occupied. Put them in their crate. Some people let their dogs outside to tear off some steam (I don't let my dogs out in this neighborhood alone, that is just me).
I don't trust the bunch of junkies that have infested my neighborhood so outdoor time is always supervised.
I bought my second puppy as a companion to my first dog. That worked out great but I didn't plan on having the two mommy's helpers I have now acquired.
As long as your dog is content with being alone when need be, and just enjoys your company when you are around then I think it is fine :)
Just watch his signs in his body language carefully when and if you try to separate from him. If he is getting stressed about the situation, that is a behavior that needs to be corrected now. Especially since you have the baby on the way and you won't be able to entertain him all the time.
Sounds like your dog is pretty normal to me though, I've even had a cat jump in the bath with me. Although he didn't seem to like it very much.....
