I have a bich-huahua breed dog. He is the cutest. Saw him at the pet store and had to have him. Not sure what shots he has yet. Will get them done maybe next week. My problem is he poopy all over the house. I spank his nose and push it on the poop but he doesn't get it. Maybe the bich-huahua breed is not that smart. You guys have any suggestions. I might get a cockawestie breed next month from my breeder friend. She breeds many beautiful puppies.
Serious question - who decided whether this was a Bich-huahua rather than a Chi-chon? Do they do this alphabetically, or does it matter which dog is the sire vs. the dam?
Can we just call them Bichon/Chihuahua mixes? Cocker Spaniel/ Westie mixes? It would make my life a lot easier and my head would hurt less.
And why breed those two sets of dogs together? I don't understand what the goal was here?
To the OP - I'm not sure you'll get much help. Since Bichons and Chi's don't have a ton in common you're looking at a crap shoot on trainability, temperament, ect...
My advice, if you're set on a mix get a mix of two dogs with the same goal (same purpose). A terrier and a sporting dog mix could give you just about anything... And not just the good traits. With your "bich-huahua" you may have gotten the puppy that inherited both sets of undesirable traits from both breeds.
In case the OP is real, and serious - NEVER spank a dog or push their nose in their poo. It doesn't teach them not to poop in the house. It teaches them to FEAR YOU! Don't expect a puppy under 6-9 months of age to be housetrained. They have limited bowel and bladder control until this age - and they have about 2 minutes notice to tell you they have to go. If you aren't in the same room as the dog, they won't come looking for you. They'll just go. Training takes, patience, consistency, praise, and love. You need to get a good book on housetraining a dog and should consider obedience classes as they will help you learn more how to train a puppy (it seems you're lacking in experience). Good Luck.
well this is a very hard question to answer and your post wont be takin very nicely around here.just a warning. Your pup i guess is a bichon and chi mix? That is not how you house break a dog and doing what you are doing will teach him to be scared to go potty anywhere. You need to put him on a 6 foot leash at all times and watch him.take him out every 2 hours and take him out after he eats, drinks, wakes up,plays, and before he goes to bed. I f you cant keep an eye on him put him in a crate or in a place with no carpet and put baby gates up. Its not your puppy that is dumb its the breeders who bred him that are dumb. Pet stores get thier puppies from puppy mills. Do you know what these are? If you want another mixed puppy get one out of the shelter.there are plenty of them. You have to realize that your puppy is just a mutt.He will not be regisitered. You can get a mutt from the shelter for a lot cheaper to.
Here is what a puppy mill is.(its where your puppy came from)
Please don't spank your dog. It's not that he's stupid, he just needs time. I find that Chis are hard to house break and it does seem common amoung Chi owners. You're not going to give him up to get another dog are you? Just keep at it with him, and NEVER give up. If you do, the Chi in him will take advantage of you :) . Are you paper training or asking him to go out?
Just read the other posts. So right abby, they are quite different...who knows what it will lead to.
But you can't give up on him, he'll come around. And you've brought him into your home. he didn't ask for you to pick him.
And Cockerlover, that is very ture, being scared to potty. he'll start to go in hidden places so you can't ever see him pee. Then you have piles of crap in the hallway or in a corner of the room.
Try what she says, and always be patient. It is such a huge misconception that wacking the dog will straighten him out. They're not as complex as humans, and a soft spanky isn't going to correct him, as much as it will make him fear you.
Then I'll point out the similarities between this OP's name and another (known) member of this forum. Then I'll point out the new rule and the fact that less than a month ago there was a huge problem with trolls.
I mean, two mixes I've never heard of? In the same post? The names of members being so close? Everyone strung out over the new rule? New poster? First post? Spanking a puppy (something anyone who's ever read a thing on here would know you Don't do)? Too many "coincidences" if you ask me. IMO
If I'm wrong, this consider this a huge apology and just read the first sentence.
If I'm right though, I guess the other members can relax and not feed this any longer. Just a thought.
I apologize if this is a real post, but I am having a hard time believing it is. Like the others, if it is real, both of those breeds are hard to housetrain. I have a Bichon/Westie mix and he was very hard to train but after months and months he has succeeded but I have heard that they can relapse every once in a while. Don't put your dogs nose in his mistakes, that is just plain nasty and mean. If you don't catch him in the act there really isn't much you can do but to clean it up and dispose of it and hopefully you get him outside before the next accident. Good luck if this is a real post.
All the other threads are placed normally but for some reason, this thread stretches all the way across my computer screen and I have to scroll way over just to read anything. *Might be growing like Pinochio's nose.* Anyone Else having the same problem?
