I took Merphy with me on vacation this past summer. We went to Solvang, Monterey and San Fransisco. I took him everywhere with me, and only left him at the hotel for maybe two hours while I went to eat. We both had a great time. But then, since he was so young and he had my undivided attention for the entire week, he became overprotective of me, and we are still dealing with that. I have a backpack that I bought off ebay that he could sit in while I was in stores. What I did, was I would walk him around whereever we were, like the bay in Monterey or Fishermans Wharf in SF, then I would put him in the backpack and do my shopping and sightseeing. That way he was getting to see new places too.
But then, I was in Las Vegas earlier this week, and he had to stay back. He would have been in the hotel room all day by himself. I also have to go to Brazil and Cabo later this year, and he'll be staying home then too, because I don't want to have to deal with overseas/different country customs. I do plan on going to Oregon and maybe West Virginia, and he'll come along on those vacations.
We NEVER go on vacation without them. People would probably think we are nuts, but I personally would not have a good time with out them. The only bad part is sometimes they are left in the hotel room alone when we go out to eat (yes that is allowed at the hotels we have been at!) .....What do you guys do with them or do you leave them alone too like you would do at home?
We usually plan our vacations around the dogs being on the road with their handler, or if there is no show that week then they just stay with the handler anyway. We usually do 2 vacations a year, one being a cruise and one to europe. This would not be condusive to bringing 2 dobermans so we plan it around their show schedule
When we had goldens we took them nsome places and had friends/family care for them when we went places we couldnt bring them. Right now we're looking into vacation places and only looking for places that will allow us to bring them with us. We do plan on a Disney trip at some point which they will not be coming for, we're considering boarding them, but not sure, we may have my MOm come to stay with them.
When we go camping, Bandit and Sadie go with us. When we go on vacations where we fly my Mom comes and stays at our house that week. I don't know what will happen now that we have the adult dogs AND puppies. But I did take Sadie and her puppies on a weekend trip to Branson during December. They were still little and they slept in the hot tub. LOL I have cute pictures of my seven year old neice sleeping with them in the hot tub one night.
I don't think they allow pets in the hotel, do they? I know of few motels that allow it, but whenver I go to vegas or reno we usually stay at those 4 or 5 stars hotel. If we are planning on going to reno or vegas again, I was planning on rolling down the window a little bit and sleeping in the car with my dog, while everyone is in the hotel.
Many hotels allow pets, but usually for an extra fee. You can search for pet friendly hotels on Expedia and Travelocity and other sites by doing an advanced search. You usually have to call the hotel to find out what their exact policy is. Some charge a per night fee, and some charge a per stay fee. I paid through Expedia for my trip and only paid the fee for one hotel, since it isn't billed through Expedia, the other hotels forgot to charge me when I got there.
My 3 go with me every time .. I never leave them behind… They’ve never been kenneled or crated … spoiled babes they are.. lol It’s a pain at times… lots of extra things to do.. when arranging for them.. hotels/rental , state laws, local laws, vet visits .. on and on… but they are my babes… so..
