I personally love this show. He doesn't always use force, and really the major force he uses is a choke chain, which I've seen plenty of trainers use before in the past. I agree with foosdog, he has a gift. He trains dogs by understanding dog mentality . I think with my first dog (he lived for 14yrs and died of old age) a lot of the training issues I had was because I tried to deal with him as a small child instead of a dog. A lot of times Ceasar trains the humans, not the dogs. In fact most of this training videos are called dog training for humans or something similar to this. I live in the So California area so I'm familiar with this trainer. He has a name for himself, especially in hollywood. He was known prior to this show coming out. He charges like $300-$400 an hour, so the people on his show are lucky because they get his services for free.
I do agree with ceasars walk thing. this is something dogs naturally do together. but as for you is in front is bs. I walk my dogs off leash and they run allover the place. do i have dominace problems. no. if i turn and walk the other way my dogs turn, and the run ahead to sniff. they follow but not in a order.the only problem with the pack theory is that we focus on how dogs discpline each other. does anyone know how dogs show approval? does know how dogs tell another dog, hey i like that keep doing it? Dogs can express that your the alphla 2 ways. by being afraid or by worship. I prefer the later I have trained dogs both ways. ceasr's and no force method. I cannot even compare results the difference in final product. At the end of gunny's training i was so hard on that dog. there was no dog to work with at the end. now addie there is more and more dog every day.
gunny, I was asking for your help in a previous post. Do you have any advice? " Gunny, I've only trained my own dogs, but I'm curious.....about the growling thing, a friend has this issue w/her Male GSD 3 yrs old, she said he shows his teeth (as she walks away), but he doesnt growl, & this scares her. What w/you recommend? " Do you do the Training as a full time/part ime job, or is it a hobby? I know training is not for everyone, but I'm thankful for people that do it. Often when the local pet store has obedience training I stop for a while (from a distance) & watch.
I did watch two of the shows, one was about how to stop your dog from jumping up on people who are visiting. I have two English Springers who had that habit, so one day when my neighbor came to visit I tried his method, just to see what would happen.Well. it took a few minutes, but to my surprise, it worked! And not only with my girlfriend, but my husband, the mailman, and myself! I don't watch every episode so can't vouch for anything else.
I think hes hilarious, the fact that he really doesn't understand the root issues with dog behavior problems. But the guy can still make a killing. This guy is cashing in big time, even has books out. I've heard alot from trainer posts about his methods, which is really just firm handling and common sense.
