I have been looking on the web for the most expensive real, not mixed, breed of dogs. I was convinced that it was the English Bulldog, until I found the Norfolk Terrier. From what I read, there were less than 500 born in the US last year. They sell for between $2000-$3000. What would justify a price like this? I assume with the Bulldogs, part of the price is attributed to the expensive prenatal care that is required. Is this true? How much is too much to charge for a dog?
we paid 1900 for rocky and 2000 for tiger lily, our french bulldogs. its an average price. i have seen them as high as 4500,here in the states. we bought anastasia(annie) from a breeder in moscow , russia. she was 1400.
i know its not the most expensive breed but i saw a trained GSD for $18,000, she was an import and came from the best german and russian lines i believe, she was also trained to attack on command(like in police work) and still be able to be a family pet and protector
The norfolk terrier has to be the most expenise i have seen! wow, that is a steep price! i suppose they get it from the supply and demand. There were only around 500 born in the us last year (i am assuming, born and registered with akc, right?) so supply is low but demand must be high so they can jack up the price.
it is aweful that they do this, but look at say labs and goldens. they have tons of them in the papers so supply is high and demand is low, therefore making the price lower.
no bella. they are just pets. actually they are like our children. when we saw our first frenchie, on the westminster dog show, it was love at first sight for hubby and me. we had no idea how much they cost. i admit, i was shocked when we started researching the breed and talking with breeders. but we had our hearts set on a frenchie and knew that we had to have one, no matter the cost. never dreamed we would have three ! but i wouldnt trade my three little clowns for anything else in the world. they are our life.
I know a lady that once paid $15,000 for a Bouvier Des Flanders, he was a top dutch show dog, had several obiediance and schltzhund level2 training as well.
As for the terrier, the fact that there are so few being bred would explain the price.
For Bulldogs there are several of them bred, well bred and very poorly bred, I have found the great breeders are around 1800 in canada, and the poor breedeers want to charge 2500 or more. This is because of the cost to whelp a littler. They very rarely can bred themselves so AI is used, then most good breeders will not chance the bitch to whelp so they schedual C-Sections. Baby bulldogs have some of the highest infant mortality rate of all the breeds, so haveing only 3 pups surrive long enough to sell is not uncommon. Pups are often born walrus so have to be PTS immediatly. Why are the BYB more money, because they have to make money a great breeder is doing it fo rthe love of the breed.
I have seen 'Teacup' Chihuahuas, whatever you want to call them~ For $3000. I wouldn't say that Chihuahuas are the most expensive breed though, because that is just what some breeders do to seel the tiny ones. I would have thought that the Bullies would be most expensive too!
BTW~ Dusty's babies are beautiful! Dusty...Show those babies off! :)
I don't think it's so much the breed but the fact that breeders know that people will pay for what they want. Now the breeds that are more rare can be justified, in a way, but breeds that you can get anywhere in the world for the most part are ampt up in price because they know people will pay for it. Simple supply and demand.
Plus the mentality is that if you pay more for it, it has to be healthy and coming from a good breeder, not a BYB or a puppymill.
I would imagine the most exspensive breed would be the rarest, which last I checked was the Norwegian Lundehund (puffin dog). But I think it varies depending on what the breeder breeds for, goes through, breed, and what you're buying the dog for.
If It's a quality show dog it's going to be more expensive, dogs that require c-sections (like bulldogs and french bulldogs) are more expenivse... Bernese Mountain dogs are expensive for whatever reason...
My most expensive dog is Haunter, my Beauceron, after import fees he was a little over $7000.
