I am now beginning to not put a label on my political beliefs and yes I voted for Bush(Kerry is Remedial and wouldn't qualify for entrance to ROmperRoom!) I had originally voted for Buchanan but when no one supported him I had to go with what was left. I do agree with a few of the things he's done but many I haven't I think that the Baathists have given up on getting Saddam back months ago and are just trying to get their own way now and hooking up with others of their kind now. the death of Saddam has created a vacuum for either the Iraqi government if they are strong enough to hold it or another possibly worse dictator if the government is not. I too would like to bring them home and I hold the UN accountable(I cvall them the "Useless UN") they don't mind gettin' paid but don't want to DO anything but just sit and debate.Their people commit horrible crimes here and have Diplomatic Immunity for all of it and we in so many ways are paying the price.
Anyway this is a pet forum so I will get off my soapbox now(grin) and turn to more related topics so any more Christmas animal ads seen?
I'm with agentcooper and laredosmom. The whole thing sounds like a scam. It's almost like they're putting on a big show to get us all rugged up. They can say and do whatever they want, we always seem to believe it all...
By the way, I thought that wasn't even him? Isn't that a clone of the real dude? He doesn't look the least bit shaken, that's usually a sign that something's up. Also I read somewhere (twice) that they're going to hide the real saddam and make everyone believe he's gone. Hmm.
well I thought that he was like a robot befor he was hanged......he didn't show any fear. I think that he was just like that because he is a millitary person they are trained to handle stuff like this. and plus I think that he was scared and he just didn't want to show it, because he was a presedent and he didn't want his millitary and his people that follow his teachings to see him blubbering like a little wussy girl. but on the inside he was crying.
I had no idea they were going to hang him. I live in South Louisiana and we are getting really bad weather now. I went to bed at midnight, my TV on in the bedroom. I was half asleep/half awake and heard something about Saddam being executed all we got a terrible hail storm! Golf ball size hail!! Talk about make you jump out of bed wondering what is happening!ha! Tons of dents in my car from the hail. Anyway--I think the US should execute guilty prisoners quick like that instead of waiting years and years for appeals. I'm not shocked he showed no remorse--that is what evil does!
ya I agree with you!! why prolong it and just suck up our u.s. tax dollars for a @$$ like that. I don't see why we need to. just get it done and over with and quit taking so long. They took way toooooooo long with saddam so convict him and sentence him to death.
I'm sorry but I don't agree with sentencing anyone to death. (I know a lot of people here do it seems which I respect) But Everyone who is put on this earth to live is meant to, and has a right to. His choices are his, and he'll pay for them when it's time. However, if the whole thing is somewhat true, they should keep him in a box or something and let him suffer the hard way for what he did. That's what he deserves. Why let him off the hook and be at peace? That's like doing him a huge favor! If anything, he deserves to be kept locked away in a tiny box where he belongs. That should do him in.
it's ok to have your own opinion. everyone has there own opinion and that's the way that the BIG MAN made us. but I used to think that we should just put him in a little box also until I saw on the news what he used to do to all these girls and children and how he would exicute them for no reason. and I don't think that he should be able to ever do that to anyone else again. his rein of terror is over. but as my daddy always told me that you can get rid of one problem and there would be a million more to take that place.
Pinky, you said it right he killed chidren babbies women mothers fathers he is a horrible person and needs to go to well you know where. i just think that any person that takes inisent peoples life doesn't need to have a life.
If as in you know where, you mean Hell. that means you believe in some form of christianity. And As I remember Jesus preached forgiveness and to let god judge.
Hmmm. In the eyes of some people Bush has massacred more people than Saddam. Bush has Massacred his own people for pure personal agendas. So the next time we think that those men and women are protecting your freedom. Which totally baffles me how that's possible. Noone has infringed on my rights. And 9/11 I cannot see the connection between invading Iraq and Osama. Those boys are dying to keep mr. bush and his friends with fresh flow od currency. And it's a shame that a country, founded by people who said were not going to put this BS anymore. Are putting up with it now.
And whether or not Saddam deserved to die. It was stupid to hang him. That's what we need give people a reason to come bomb us. the man was harmless in jail.

Yah it may seem that way, but the Iraqi people likely would never settle or be able to move on until he's gone.
We're dealing with a totally different country full of people with different ways of looking at things...different beliefs and a totally different way of life, so what is necessary or acceptable to them doesn't have to be so for us.
I will admit, that sometimes I look at the way they handle and react to things and think, whoa...those people are like barbarians! But I don't think I can even understand what kind of lives they lead unless I'm in their shoes sharing their lifestyle and their religion.
The irony is that a lot of the execution laws and guidelines were set in place by Saddam, himself.
There is a video out there now of the full execution, and as I watched it I felt the way the executioners conducted themselves seemed so animalistic to me. But, I'm not them, and my life and family wasn't ripped apart by him.
yeah...i have my doubts that he's gone, but we will probably never know. superwoman, i also disagree with the death sentence. there is something methodical and sort of sick about the process. however, i understand completely the WANT for justice of that type. an eye for an eye...which in Saddam's case is impossible because he hurt so many people. it's part of human nature to want to defend and seek retribution for pain inflicted upon you by another. i wish there was a way that families who've been hurt could devise justices of their own sort or be involved directly... i know that would get out of control... but i think it might be healthier... or not. i'm just rambling...

I, too, think it was unnecessary to hang Saddam. He probably already feels defeated after American soldiers killed his two sons, Uday and Qusay Hussein, and his grandson. I do not think killing another human being because of what they did wrong will remedy the situation. I think the hanging will cause more harm than good. It might make some Sunnis and Kurds happy to see Saddam dead; however the hanging will probably spur more violence when Saddam loyalist see that their leader is dead. In the long run, it will probably result in more deaths on both sides. Overall, it seems to do nothing, but cause publicity, controversy, and harm.

Wow it seems like quite a discussion has started. My dad and I sat down to dinner last night, and your theories may be right. My dad said there's thousands and thousands of Saddam look-a-likes who would do anything for Saddam, including being hung. It's odd, it did seem too easy, but I guess we may never know.
And agreed with superwoman, it's like putting him at peace, he should have suffered a whole lot more.
I am against Death Penalty . He should have got Life sentence so he will live in Hell every day for the crimes he committed
Sadam is a very very horrible man . He murdered too many people . Again there are leaders like Sadam in Middle East . A christian friend told me how difficult to live in Egypt as a christian Many christians are killed and tortured daily there , Egypt is an ally of USA

As far as just putting him in jail....it's been done before and a quick overthrow of that little country's government let him out again. For comparing him to Bush...Saddam has killed thousands upon thousands of his own people for petty reasons and imagined plots. He has sentenced people to years of being raped and tortured for the smallest, unintentional slight against people even remotely connected to him. I saw the "leaked" video that shows the hanging right up to the back and forth swing. It looked like him but the quality was of course poor due to it being from a cell phone that had to be kept hidden. It looked realistic but if I had to swear it was him I couldn't. As a Christian I did pray for him that since "a day in God's presence is like a thousand years" it would be possible for him to realize in those last few seconds what he had done and for him to repent and God to show him the way home. He showed no remorse because he believed he was justified in everything he did. It most likely wasn't an act, it is how he and his followers see things.
This is rather political in nature. I don't believe in the death penalty under any circumstances... right off I don't agree with it. I think it is outdated, inhuman and morally wrong-- this will not make it right.
Second, why would any Americans give a crap if Sadam dies? HE DIDN'T DO ANYTHING TO OUR COUNTRY. He was a terrible bad man and a ruthless leader. There are a lot of them out there, some have been our allies. Some terrible leaders our country help bring to power in South America and elsewhere.
What is our country doing about DARFUR? If we want to be the policemen to the world it should be equal to every country, not just those with oil and other things we want.
Finally-- Sadam is only a scapegoat. A huge scapegoat for OSAMA BIN LADEN..... Remeber him? HE was the guy behind 9/11 that killed American citizens in our own country and changed our country forever. NOT SADAM.
You would be suprised all of the ignorant Americans that forget that little fact. I mean they both have brown skin. I know it is hard to keep them separate with the huge political spin machines keeping Sadam in the headlines while Osama is MOCKING US.
I would like to know when a country will come in and invade ours to bring OUR LEADER (BUSH) to justice for killing thousands of AMERICANS by starting a war for nothing-- and that is exactly what he did.
