My mother in law fosters kittens. At any given time it's possible that she could have between 5 and 10 kittens in her house. She uses "Yesterdays news" - it's made of recycled newspapers. Now - I will say that she is VERY good about keeping it all cleaned up (she cleans the cat boxes 2-3 times a day). I'm very sensitive to the smell of litterbox odor - and normally, her house doesn't bother me at all.
i have 6 cats so i know a little about litter lol. i used to use Johnny Cat. I have recently started using Pet Gold its great. There isnt the dust that is with normal litters. It clumps better than most litters.
i have tried every imaginable litter out there, all the expensive ones first, and what works best for us is the cat's pride scoopable litter. it is the cheapest litter i have found. i think it has much better odor control then any of the other more expensive and scented litters.
if anyone has a dog that likes to raid the kitty box for a snack ... DON'T use clumping litter. if the dogs ingest it, it can clump up in their intestines and cause a huge problem !!!!!
i also know of one girl whose young husky mix died from ingesting a small amount of the newer crystal type litter. i tried that litter once and god only knows why someone would use it. its the most god awful litter to work with.
OK I will give you my 2 cents and I hope it helps. I have had cats all my life and remember using the floor dry litter then some miracle worker invented the scoop-able litter.
Now what I have learned about the clumping clay litters is that they will cause breathing issues. This happens when they are in there scratching around breathing the dust. Well this stuff with moist noses will glue up like wet clay.
So now I'm on Feline pine and love it. Not hard to clean up at all. It doesn't smell but I do clean it everyday! You can buy this stuff at Wal-mart and under 4 dollars a month.
Fresh Results Cat Litter - Best in the Universe! Natural, Biodegradable and the cats love it!
This is the same product as Nature's Miracle by 8 in 1 (Pro Pet). They sell that at Petco for $18+ a bag. Walmart sells it for $5.22 a bag, except they are now pulliing it off the shelves. I have stuggled to find a litter I can use for that cats that wasn't clay and didn't have perfumes because of my illness, this was the only product but now Walmart isn't selling it any more. I have 2 cats and one box. I scoop 2 times a day, and only change out the whole box maybe once ever 6 to 8 weeks. I just add more litter as it gets low. The box never ever smells. This litter covers every single odor, lasts a very long time and the cats love it! They love digging in it and will actually cover their leavings! I have had cats for 30+ years and have tried everything, even down to sand! This is truly the best cat litter in the universe!
