Hi! I have a 4 year old Black Lab and a Lab/Akita mix who is 3. I realize that shedding is quite normal for these dogs but I got too tell you, it has gotten quite out of hand. For about the last year, living in Nebraska where the weather changes big each season, the shedding is out of hand. All year long it has stayed consistently the same. We have tried everything, bathing, combing, vitamins and such. Could it be the food? What would be the best? I have to vacuum 2 or 3 times a day yet it still is awful! They otherwise are healthy, happy doggies. Any help would be great, thanks.
what food are you feeding them? low quality brands like brands sold at wal-mart and grocery stores can lead to more shedding. Allergies could be a factor, especially if they have recently moved states.
Also, are they outside dogs? that could mean that they are growing undercoats and thicker coats.

i am a dog groomer. i use the furminator shampoo x's 2 then the furminator solution [dilute 5:1] left on the coat about 10mins at this time i comb or rake thru the coat pull loads of hair out. then rinse, rinse, rinse, rinse apply a leave in cream rinse and comb thru again and blow dry with a high volume dryer to blow more loose undercoat out. do again in 2 weeks then 4 weeks then 6 weeks by then you can go to 6-12 weeks--most of my clients love this so much they come every 4-6 weeks they say their housework is so much eaiser. and course the DIET and OIL factor in their life is so important!-no corn, wheat, soy and no grains kibble . the leave in conditioner make the loose hair fall out easy so if you go outside and use the furminator tool, rake and comb at least 1 time a week it should be much better.
