I am going to our Adopt-a-pet tomorrow with a friend to help her pick out a pup. I got on their website, and guess what I found? You got it... a Husky. Uggghhh! Showed the pic to my husband, and he wanted her as well. We are just concerned, with our current setup, if we can safely contain her. We don't have our kennel built yet... All we have now is a "doggy highrise" A kennel that my husband built on a raised wooden deck. And an underground fence.
She is spayed, 10 months old, and is housetrained as well. Don't know yet if she is crate trained, but we crate trained Yukon when we brought him home with no trouble. She is in the same shelter that we got Yukon from actually.
I honestly don't know if I'll be able to leave there without her! We have such a heart for this breed. I'm just gonna go there with an open mind. I'm really not going for me anyways. I'm going to help my friend look at a sheltie mix. I just saw her on their website and my heart leaped!
Maybe I can ask about fostering her... I know they don't have a lot of room right now. That way we could get her home and evaluate her ourselves before we actually take the plunge.
We've had awesome luck with Yukon (from the same shelter).
Yes, I admit I have the Husky potato chip syndrome. I can't have just one, and there is always room for one more!!
Let's see that would take us up to 5 dogs! An almost 3 yr neutered male (Everest), an almost 2 yr neutered male (Yukon), a 5 month old female (Sierra, whom I hope to show), an 11 wk male (Summit, who I plan to show), and then maybe this girl....
OMG...She is absolutely gorgeous!!! I know what you mean about the # of dogs,,we have 6 pits, 1 Rottweiler, 2 cats and a ferret. (my hubby calls it the Rhodes Ranch, and I am in the process of painting the house Poppy and Cream) LOL
Good Luck!! You know you will get her, and she's will be loved.
Husky-- i have a question...i too love the husky breed!! i think they are absolutly beautiful and i love the eyes!!! but i have heard that it's bad for the pups to have them in warm weather regions. i am in arkansas so we have hot summers and cold/mild winters. is it true that you would need to have them in the northern states where it is cold most of the time?!
OHHHH, How beautiful is this girl! I would get her myself if you don't! LOL
I hope you get your fence up soon, this will be so much easier for you. You know how pack oriented these kids are. They will soon bust out of the under ground fence. LOL I can just see you running after them. Too funny. As you know with more dogs the wood or chain link is a must.
So awesome that you are bailing this girl out! Bless ya Husky and wish all goes well! Post pictures soon of all your kids! LIKE you have time for that! LOL
OscarsMomma, I have two Siberians and they are indoors during the summer months. I live in SD, I can't even imagine them being outdoors. They sit in a 72 degree home and pant. I would never have them outside during the heat. Now during the winter they dig tunnels in the snow banks and lay in them. They LOVE the cold. I have to pull them in the house during the winter! LOL
I have a pool so they swim, I have a sandbox that I keep wet and they can come inside anytime they want with the doggie door all 4 seasons.
A Husky would be great down south if they are indoor dogs.
I talked to the lady at the shelter... She said that 'Zoie' is an owner surrender. Her owner had to move suddenly, and couldn't take her with. So sad!!! She is already at the vet's as she is getting spayed on Wed morn. (the vet is a stone's throw away from the shelter). The lady said when my friend and I go to visit that we can ask to see her at the vet's as well.
I have no idea if it will work or not. Hubby is concerned about the financial obligations with having another dog. He wants her badly though! He said, "I can't wait till we have our kennel built, we'll rescue them all!" God I love that man!
She will have been spayed, shots, and heartworm test. Her adoption fee is $100, then any other vet bills or supplies we need. Another collar for the fence would be $90. Just a lot of details to think about. I don't want it to be a bad split-second decision for us. I want to really think this through, for her sake at the very least!
I was even on the net checking for a good name for her today! Ughh... I don't know!!! We'll see....
*I forgot to mention, she said they would rather just adopt her instead of us fostering. I told her the set-up we currently have, and she was literally BEGGING me to come look at her!
