I'm new to this site and I'm hoping you can help me. I have a nine month old puggle. He is a great family dog but his crying all night is unbearable. We have him in a crate on the side of our bed. We did this per the advice of his vet. As of late he wakes up every 2 hours in the middle of the night howling at the top of his lungs. I know he can hold going potty longer than this because we are at work all day. I'm worried because he's out of the new puppy stage and seems to be really un-happy at night. Any advice would be helpful
I had that problem with a little younger dog, and I put a sheet over her crate, kinda like you would a bird. It worked very well. On the down side, beagles are know to be extremly vocal. If she is hearing something you are not, she could be talking back. Since a puggle is a mix between pug and beagle, anything normal to either breed is possible. Good luck
I'd watch that covering the crate with a sheet... I tried that when we first got Dora because she howled the first night for over an hour. The next night, her howling stopped after 15 minutes, and I thought we had made progress... but no. My clever dog had pulled the towel through the bars of the door and tugged until she popped the door open, and voila, she was free! Now instead of covering the door, we turn the crate so the door faces the wall. She still wakes up at night and whines, but soon self-soothes herself and goes back to sleep. 9 months is old enough to hold it overnight. You need to be sure you ignore the pup when it whines. If you pay attention to the howling, or get her out, then you are rewarding that behavior and she will continue waking you up at night.
when my puppy did that i gave up and let him sleep with me. i dont really mind he cuddled with me. but the first few nights he cried all night and i just felt so bad but now. he'll pass out anywhere and stay there all night.
