In FL they will put any testicle problems or any other problems for that matter right on the health certificate. This way there is no way any breeder can hide these issues. Florida has some of the toughest breeder laws of any state. They also have the best recourse for the buyer. I would definitly urge you to read your states pet law before buying a pup in any state. I include on with the purchase of the pup. Look it up on google, just type the state and pet law. It should pull it up for any state. These laws should explain your rights as a consumer. Just because a guarantee says stuff from the breeder, the states pet law super seeds all breeder contracts especailly if they don't fit the guidelines of the states pet law.
I found this post really helpful. Maybe someone can help me with my situation. I got a yorkiepoo, I totally regret not seeing the pup for myself before I got it but i didn't want to get a puppy from a pet store and have called shelters fro weeks they had no pups. I live in Brooklyn NY so there aren't really that many breeders around and its hard for me to travel to see puppies. so anyway I got the pup from a site they said they don't cover coccidia, giardia, kennel cough, ear mites etc. I understand that sometimes you can't control what a pup gets or through delivery. When I got her I noticed an hour later she is coughing and sneezing and has a green discharge from her nose. I brought her to the vet the next day, she has Upper respiratory infection, ear mites and coccidia! I called the place I got her from and they explained these are common occurrences and I said upper respiratory infection isn't common and thats means you had to know she was and let her go anyway. They said they are only willing to refund me the medicine prices based on how much the vet charges in there area. How should I handle this situation? Maybe I am wrong somehow I don't know. Any incite will be helpful or even tips to get my pup healthy
My husband who knows NOTHING about dogs went out on his own and pais 1200 for my fist Maltese as a birthday gift. The moment I saw her I fell in love but I relaized she was really sick and weak. her nose was dry, warm she was coughing and had a BAD infection on he thigh from a ahot she had received.
I marched to the pet shop and the owner told me that if God forbid something happened to my Ladie she would give me another Malt, She offered to give 1 right there and then but I just knew that if I left my baby there she would die! the place smelled HORRIBLE there were 3-4 dogs per cage and Ladie was shivering with a high fever.
I took her to the Vet and she had kennel cough and a bad upper respiratory infection. I came home, bathed and dried her, wrapped her in a blanket and started feeding her Baby food. Veal and ric cereal, pedyalite every 3 hours around the clock. I went out, got canned Goat's milk abd fed 1 oz every 4 hours. Second day my baby was playing and acting like a puppy should. I called animal control reported the Pet Shop and I was notified that they were fined thousands of dollars for violations. all pups we looked over by a Vet and those that were sick were taken from that HORRIFIC place. Ladie is now 5 years old and doing great. She has NEVER, EVER been sick again.
This is Captain my baby Malt. He is my #5 Maltese.
I read everyone's post's regarding a pet deposit however much of your conversations turned into what I would say very confusing for a breeder or buyer. Mis-information can harm more than good. No 2 people are alike in this world and everyone has their own beliefs & opinions, and right to such. As breeders, whether "professional" or "casual", we still have different beliefs as what a good dog is. I disagree with the person that claims you should purchase from only a breeder that Shows & belongs to Clubs. These Shows & Clubs are ONLY for the Breeder's personal recognition and have no bearing on the actual puppy being sold, its health, its disposition, etc. Because you show one dog, does not mean its offspring are going to be as Primed. The showing is a result of the owner's training. Yes, they have to have a beautiful coat, all their gonad's, straight teeth, a perfect stance and hold up their tails, but again, this is a result of the training THAT Dog receives. The bloodline has some bearing, but on the specific breed. But "showing" is no guarantee of a "perfect" puppy. One don't need to belong to a "preppy club" to provide quality family pets. What IS important in selling puppies, is HOW you CARE FOR the Mother, that puppy during whelping and after. From the health, vet checks, to shots, to feeding, to socialization, to basic training. If you do all of this, you provide a good puppy! Many folks search for a Good FAMILY Pet. My puppies are raised in my home right with us on a daily basis. They become accustomed to everyday living, socialization to other animals and people/children, to everyday sounds so learn not to be fearful of every noise and bark at every sound. I provide potential new parents with photo's nearly daily, photo's of where they sleep, play & start paper training, they are welcomed into our home to visit and they are encouraged to call me with any questions. Puppy's can become aggressive with food if you simply throw a dish of food for them to share, especially first thing in the morning. My puppies never ended up aggressive eaters because I did something I learned as a Mother of a baby just learning to eat foods. A baby, naturally wakes up hungry or what they believe "starving" and you can't shovel the food in fast enough (their form of aggression) so I simply offer the baby or puppy a little milk FIRST. Just enough to take the edge off the hunger. I found this works great with puppies and they take their time eating, happily together. I've had 100% happy new puppy parents with all my litters and how healthy & wonderful dispostion they are. My puppies could be show quality, however this is up to the owner to decide and I don't claim to sell for that. I do claim to sell Quality Family Pets. I keep in contact with the new parents for a long time and receive countless photo's of my puppies growth. I'm not attempting to put anyone down who shows their dogs or belongs to a club. Everyone has a hobby they enjoy, and there are people that enjoy the attention or praise they receive showing their dog, theres nothing wrong with this! BUT it does not have a bearing on all breeders and their ability to provide a good puppy. Again, because the Mom is show quality does not mean she will have a non aggressive, healthy, perfect disposition puppy. The end result is up to what the Breeder does or doesn't do. Good luck all and please stop scaring potential buyers into buying YOUR puppies only with all the extra things for them to be fearful of. I agree, puppy mills need to be stopped, I've visited a few and it made me ill to see them. But I've also visited a few "personal breeders" and was pleased with what I found. I've had "mutts, mixed breeds & full bred" pets in my lifetime. NONE were bad family pets and I miss each and every one of them to this day. There's nothing wrong with any of them as long as you receive them healthy and treated properly to start with. There is NO bad dog, its how they are raised & treated by humans!
DO NOT TRUST KARA PIZZETTI OF RIDDERMARK KENNELS I have 100% confirmation and proof that Kara Pizzetti, owner of Riddermark Kennel, falsely represented the parents of the puppy she sold me. She sent me photos of a sire & dam of massive stature and head size. The actual parents look VERY different than the photos she used to represent them. She will tell you and charge you for show quality puppies but do not trust her. DO NOT BUY FROM HER!!! I have reported her to the Better Business Bureau, AKC, and flagged her on Ebay classifieds. BE VERY CAREFUL TRUSTING THIS SELLER SHE IS VERY MANIPULATIVE AND DISHONEST. HER HEALTH TESTING IS A JOKE, MANY OF HER PUPPIES HAVE HEALTH PROBLEMS.
STAY AWAY!!!!!!!!!!!!! message me to discuss further.
Thanks everyone for the very useful information. I was looking at some breeder websites, I just didn't understand exactly what I was looking for. My bestfriend had recently came across some really bad breeders, I didn't want to experience the same faith.
