a question for the groomers on this board. what is the best kind of brush/comb to use when brushing out the undercoat? my eskie blows her coat 1-2 times a year and i am trying to find the best thing to get it all out with. thanks!
An undercoat rake. It looks like a yard rake with a short handle, you can get one from walmart or any other pet place. Take the dog outside and just spend an hour or so grooming them. When they shed, with some dogs it will all come out at once, or it may come out a little bit at a time like it does with my dogs. Be glad you have an eskie! When a 90 lb akita sheds, you would not believe how much undercoat that dog will produce!!
When I am grooming a double coated dog, I usually first take the rake, then the slicker. Typically, the entire groom consits of brush out, bath, hand dry, kennel dry, hand dry, brush out, done (typically nails and ears before bath).
I use a slicker for taking my dog's undercoat out. I even use a hand stripper to get what the slicker misses. I don't know if it is right or wrong, and you have to be careful that you don't cut the hair or your dog. I would just stick with the slicker and that rake that minniyar was talking about.
