I do not know if this problem has been fixed or not! I am bumping this for a person that got a puppy from me to read! If anyone is has any info on what is going on with this food I would like too know!
I dont know that my pet nutritionist friend has removed it from her list of recommended foods because they will not answer her questions about their manufacturing procedures, so there is no real info to be had because the company will not share it anymore.
My dog is a 4 year old yellow lab, Im currently trying to do as much research as I possibly can about this wellness dog food, It have been almost a year that Iv been giving my dog wellness white fish and sweet potatoes. And all the symptoms that Iv read from the posts have all had happened to him!!! Once started on the food: he started have really bad gas! like really bad! would wake up to vomit every other day his poop would be really yellowish and not that hard, not like how it used to be when he was on other dog foods. it didn't look too normal he wouldn't want to eat the food sometimes. I would have to hand feed it because I was thinking it was good for him
I now believe deeply that my dog is dying because of this dog food he's been eating! he has is no longer mobile. he has grown really weak in his back legs through out the past two months. I have seen a total of FOUR VETS that cannot find out what is wrong, and do not think at all it has to do with the natural dog food! Not only can he barely get up to pee now but he is growing two really abnormal bumps on his neck that the vet said its a (90% chance that its cancer)
I just wanna warn everyone that you should NOT USE THIS DOG FOOD. You may think its the best but there is something they are not telling us, and I plan on getting to the bottom of this. If I have to put my dog down this dog food company will be the first to blame on my list!!!
Ok, if you REALLY think he is sick because of the food, then why have you continued to feed him that same food for a year? Doesn't common sense dictate to change food if a dog is not doing well on a particular brand?
It sounds to me that she just read the posts and has asked her vet if it was the food and they said no! Don't judge to fast. For the OP get your dog off wellness now! I hope it is not to late. Do not blame yourself it is labeled as a great food that cost you a arm and a leg. You were trying to give your dog the best! Keep us informed on how it go's! Good luck!
Don't be too fast to judge? If I started feeding my dog a new food, and she immediately started throwing up every other day, had bad gas, and didn't want to eat the food, would I continue to feed her that same food for an entire year? Would I just wait to see if anyone else had problems with it, while my dog gets sicker and sicker? Hell no!!! Use some common sense. If my dog doesn't LIKE a food, it doesn't matter how good it is-I'm not going to make her eat it. And if she doesn't do well on a food, same thing. It's not like Wellness is the only brand out there.
I have a chocolate lab mix who just turned 2 this month. He has been on wellness for about 8 months and we haven't had any problems. About 3 weeks ago he had some severe (explosive) diarrhea so we took him to the vet. They couldn't find anything wrong with him and thought maybe he just had a virus. I put him on a diet of ground beef and rice and after 3 days his stool was back to normal. I continued the ground beef and rice for 7 days and yesterday started mixing in his regular wellness food (I bought a brand new bag to be on the safe side). The same night he was back to having loose stools and now he is back to complete diarrhea. I am DONE with wellness.
We have had similar problems with our 12 year old lab mix. We switched her to Wellness about a year ago when she got bored with Nutro. She loved Wellness and everything was fine until about a month ago when she developed the runs. We'd come home from work everyday and find surprises in the house. One night she couldn't hold anything and was asking to go out every 30-60 minutes. We called the vet to make an appointment and they suggested we switch her to a bland diet for a couple of days first. Boiled chicken and rice put her back to normal, but as soon as we put her back on Wellness the runs started again. We originially thought the illness was an age thing, but after about 10 days of swtiching between the bland diet and Wellness, we figured we must have gotten a bad bag of dog food. We put her back on Nutro and she seems to be fine now.
I just opened a brand new bag of Wellness Core not due to expire till next year. It was moldy! I have been feeding Wellness for some time with good results but after reading this forum I am very concerned that the company (under new owners) has gone downhill.... what food do I feed now??? Do they all have issues?
I have been feeding my now 7 1/2 yr old small mixed breed dog Wellness CORE for the past 3 years and have never had a problem. Before I switched her to Wellness she had a few bouts with digestive problems that caused a couple stays at the vets office. I had her on a raw diet but I could not afford that and I researched the foods and Wellness worked. She liked it and not a problem since.
BUT the past month or so, she has stopped eating as much and seems bloated to me. About 2 weeks ago she was clingy, lethargic, would not eat anything, was throwing up & eating grass, her stomach was making loud gurgling noises & she was not pooping, etc. So I took her to the vet, they did bloodwork (all came back normal), gave some medicine and I feed her boiled chicken & rice for about 5 days then started adding the Wellness again and she seemed fine. I assumed she must have got something out of the trash (which is unlikely because I never leave things where she can get to them as she is part "scavenger" cocker spaniel). But today, I come home from work and suddenly she's acting the same way as a couple weeks ago. There is NO way she got into anything so now I am questioning on whether it is the food. A bad bag? Or could the recent surge of Wellness commercials & ads I see everywhere mean that they have gone commercial and are now on the level of crap like science diet & eukanuba?
If anyone has found any facts on changes to the formula or recalls or anything, that would be most helpful to know. Thank you
Thank you all so much for your input. I too am facing serious issues with Wellness foods. My Pug 2 weeks ago became ill with diarrhea bad but it cleared up when I put her on chicken and rice and the vet gave her medication. Now Thursday my 9 year old Pekingese had blood in her stool that night and the next day had bad diarrhea and more blood. She has had tummy issues in the past but I have kept her great for the past 4 years! The vet put her on medication on Friday morning and then Saturday night she was still bad so it was up to the emergency room with her. She is doing much better but still not great. After reading these posts they are now OFF Wellness and only on chicken and rice until I figure out what is going on. At least both dogs liver numbers were great so after much testing looks like it only has effected the lower colon. Still bad but could of been a whole lot worse as you all know. By the way our girls are on Wellness Healthy weight dry food. When Core came out we were forced to switch to it and it was REALLY BAD!!! JUST GOT OFF THE PHONE WITH WELLNESS. THEY HADN'T HEARD ABOUT ANY PROBLEMS AND WERE REALLY CONCERNED. PLEASE CALL THEM DIRECT IF YOU HAVE OR HAD ANY ISSUES SO THAT THEY CAN LOOK INTO IT. THAT WILL HELP ALL ANIMALS WHO ARE STILL ON WELLNESS STAY WELL. Good luck to you all and much love and blessings to your pets.

We have given our 4 year old American Eskimo Wellness canned food (mostly the stews) for a couple of years. In December he started to have diarrhea. We tried a few different solutions on our vet's advice. But the diarrhea only improved when we stopped the Wellness food. I couldn't believe a premium brand was causing the problem, so I tried putting him back on the Wellness twice. Both times the diarrhea returned. We're switching brands.
I HAD PURCHASED WELLNESS SENIOR DRY DOG FOOD FOR MY 2 WESTIES. TONIGHT WHEN I FED THEM THE DOOD FOOD WAS FULL OF WORMS. I HAD USED ABOUT 1/3 OF THE LARGE BAG. TOOK IT BACK TO THE STORE AND WE OPENED ANOTHER LARGE BAG TO FIND IT FULL OF WORMS. I SENT EMIAL TO WELLNESS TO NOTIFIY THEM. I CAN'T BELIEVE THAT I WAS THE FIRST ONE TO FIND WORMS IN THEIR FOOD. THIS IS NOT THE QUALITY DOG FOOD THAT I PAID FOR.

I adopted my dog 6 days ago and on the recommendation of the local pet store manager I bought him wellness small breed dog food. He has had diarrhea and gas ever since. At first I thought it was just because his food was switched abruptly instead of mixed and slowly changed. But now I think its just that the food is bad. I am not feeding it to him anymore. I spent about 3 hours on the internet doing research and I'm going to try life's abundance dog food. The consensus seems to be that it is an excellent quality food. Has anyone here tried this dog food?

My dogs were just recently on Wellness special 5 diet and now my 8 year old Cavalier King Charles may have liver problems. His blood tests were crazy high and he was fine on Royal Canine until I had to switch because pet stores no longer carried it. I hope my vet caught it in time. He seems fine though the tests don't lie, he's on some meds and hopefully everything turns out okay. Of course I'm beyond worried and am now telling everyone with a pet not to buy the food especially my talks with people at the dog park. I prey for all your dogs I hope you do for mine. DO NOT BUT WELLNESS!!!
