Hello Readers! First I'll introduce myself. I'm new too "Terrific Pets", my name is Anita and I reside in Leonard, Michigan (east side). Hello! I owed a beautiful fawn male pug for 13 years. "Pickles" was a great family companion and will always be missed. Now my children are all grown and have started families of their own and I am also now a widow. I really miss having my pug around and have started looking for another fawn male pug puppy. The person I had purchased Pickles from is no longer around and I have heard and been told that it isnt really that good to purchase puppies from animal stores, is this true? I was told because you don't know who the parents are of the puppy and if the parents had any health issues and also that some of these animal stores purchase dogs from breeders that breed dogs unsafely. Weather or not this is fully true, I don't know, and is why i am asking, because I can't find a fawn male pug puppy in or near my area in Michigan. Any suggestions on how i should handle this? Is it ok to purchase puppies from animal/pet stores? I'm not referring to places like pets mart or something like that i'm referring to stores that you see in malls that have kittens, cats, birds n such for sale, are these really safe places? I just really MISS having a pug and while my husband has since passed away I'm lonely and would really enjoy having a new little family member to love and do things with. Any suggestions would be great. I've looked at a few sites and even a pug rescue but nothing was available, not even near my area. I'll be checking back to see if anyone has any ideas and if i find a puppy i'll be sure and fill you's all in. Thank you in advance for your time. Have a wonderful day. Anita (Leonard, Michigan)
Best suggestion is to go to the parent site http://www.pugs.org/ and look for a breeder referral there. Don't be hasty, ask questions of the breeders and expect a good breeder to have equally as many questions to ask of you. Good luck in your search.

Please do NOT buy from a pet store! Don't treat getting a puppy like heading down to the corner store for a gallon of milk.
Yes, it will be more work finding a breeder, and it might take some time, but this is an important decision. The breeder you want to buy from is going to want to know about you and is interested in seeing their pups grow to live healthy lives. The breeders who sell to pet stores don't care -- they'll never meet you and never see their pups again. If you have any kind of health or behavioral issues with your pup, you should be able to contact the breeder. If you bought from a pet store, you are out of luck.
Don't take the "easy way" to get your pup. Do your homework first.
