My kids found a dog wandering in our yard awhile ago. As you all know, we live on a *VERY* busy intersection and it is not a safe place for any dog to be roaming. I sent the kids out walking the neighborhood with the dog and still no one has claimed her. She has a collar but no tags and I have never seen her in the neighborhood before. I dont know what to do next. If I call AC they will take the dog and that is the last thing I want to do but I am afraid to bring her in the house with the other dogs, although she is friendly with the kids, I dont know how she will act with my dogs and Ruthie. Someone please help.
let them meet outside on nuetral ground. and leash all the dogs. be prepared fpr the worst. but hope for the best. then post signs and advertise in the newpaper if you wish. afterawhile if there are no claims adopt the dog out yourself. hope that helps.
OK here is what I have done. I brought all my dogs in the house and "she" is in the pen outside, in hopes someone will drive by and see her. Duncan is going nuts trying to get to her so I dont feel they will be too friendly with each other. I took her picture and am printing flyers as I type. As soon as I am done I will post her pic and maybe someone can guess what breed she is. I am clueless when it comes to breeds.
Introduce the dogs to your own dogs slowly. Put your dogs on one side of a fence and the lost one on the other. See how they react. If their fur stands up, it's probably not the greatest idea to keep them together. Maybe you can find a friend to keep the poor little fellow. Put an add in the newspaper, and have people call giving you descriptions of their missing dog. Hopefully you can find the rightful owner. Good luck. Sarah
Many newspapers will run "found dog" ads for free, so I would recommend calling your local paper. You can also call animal control/SPCA and give the organization a description of the dog you found so that if someone calls or shows up looking for the dog, the pound will be able to direct the owner to you. Animal control won't come get the dog if you say you are willing to take care of it. Good luck finding the owner.
I would call the local shelter and ask if anyone has reported her missing at least. Let them know where the dog is and that it is fine if it spends a couple of days at home with you. What will you do if no one claims it? Would you keep it. The first place I called when I thought Aisha was missing today was the shelter. I left them my name in the event that someone called her in. Not everyone would be okay going to get her because she is a Shepherd so I told them maybe someone would just call. Give them a heads up. No tags? not very responsible!
I cannot reach animal control on Sunday, unfortunately. They were sure out and about 2 Sunday's ago when my dogs got loose. LMAO. I guess I will keep her in the pen for the night and if no one responds to the flyers by noonish tomorrow I will bring her in to meet the rest of the family. Duncan knows she is in "his" pen and he isn't a bit happy about it. Hopefully I can get her home soon. The kids want to keep her, they dont understand she has a home and a family who is probably missing her right now. I will keep you posted on the situation.
I will keep her as long as I have to. If I am not able to find her owners within a few weeks, I will try finding her a home. I refuse to let a shelter take her from here. NEVER!!!!!!! I think these dogs know that and that is why they end up here when they get lost. This is 4 in 2 months time. LOL.
I will keep my eyes on the newspaper and flyers around the area. I will wait a week or so before running an ad for her. I have a few flyers up right now. One at the liquor store next door, the gas station, bowling alley, and the smoke shop. These places get a high volume of traffic and hopefully someone will recognize her. She is a beautiful dog and deserves to be in her own home.
Yes lalayla that was a good one. Maybe that is why there are no tags, but that is a false sense of security not everyone who finds a dog knows about the chip. (look how long we took to figure that out)lol
Put up flyers and post in the newspaper. I would say tell them that you will give maybe a week before the dog goes to the shelter (of course a no kill one) and then follow through. Keep the dog confined and turn him in when that time is up. Until them search for the owner.
