Most definitely. Or, if the kennel is on the other side of the country, a videotape or two is good, of the dog and the kennel. I think contracts should be used whenever possible. ---Allie the Chihuahua http://www.dogster.com/?41063 ---Mönica the Kitty http://www.catster.com/?57596
I read somewhere that home visits really are not that good. Because if a person is visiting different breeders and different puppies they possibly could bring something (ie. parvo) into your house and give it to your whole litter.
thank you Allie .Just wondering because I have puppies that are ready to go.A guy called tonight about them and said he wanted three of them(all females). it sounded a little funny to me but I might just be a little over protective with me babbies. I am going to miss them when they are gone!
I would! Ask them their address & ask them to give you a time range of when they'll be home. Then just "drop by" to see what the house is like. ---Allie the Chihuahua http://www.dogster.com/?41063 ---Mönica the Kitty http://www.catster.com/?57596
Sounds suspicious! He might even be planning on reselling them. I would definately go over there... About vaccinations: Just because a puppy has been vaccinated a few times DOES NOT mean they are covered against diseases! Has anyone heard of maternal antibodies? These are passed to the puppy during its nursing period. They travel through mom's milk. That is why a puppy is not truly covered against infectious diseases until it has had it's full set of boosters. Our Vet recommends 6, 8, 10, 12, 14, and 16 week immunizations with a high titer 5 way. Since noone can tell when the maternal antibodies will wear off, the best way to protect your pups is to give them a full set of boosters before you take the chance of exposing them to possible infection. (i.e. a doggy park, PetCo, etc.)
He said he was getting them for his kids. But did not want any males bacause he said he heard females are better with kids. I told him the males are just as good with kids as the females are. I do have a contract the new owner has to sign before they receive the puppy. It states in one part that the puppy can not be trasfered to anyone other then the person buyingthe puppy. It says ownership of the puppy can not be tranfered to any oneelse without my permission. And i have rights to reposses the puppy if this is done. something similar to this.My sisters friend is a lawyer and he said everything was legal in it and i had to have at least one other wittness to sign it whaen we did. This guy just does'nt sound good tooo me.
Bassetmom.... YES if he wants 3 females he is going to be using them for breeding. I deal with breeders all the time. Ussually dogs bring more money if they are going to be used for breeding especially females. Are they registered??? If so there is a limited reigstration or Full registration which would give the person breeding rights . This does not mean they are going to a puppy mill .... NOT all breeders are puppy mills !!!! But I would definately get more info and you have a right to ask LOTS of questions before selling your dogs. Jubilee
Bassetmom.....................Why not tell the guy what your concerns are, and see what he says? Do you not want him to breed the females? I would say it is pretty clear that is his plan, but it isn't necessarily a bad thing, unless you do not want them bred. If that is the case, then just do a limited registration. It is not uncommon for a good breeder to have three females.
