Seriousely, maybe that puppy will be good for you and for Piper. The irony of what happened just seems strange to me. I am a strong believer in fate and everything happens for a reason. Maybe this pup was meant to be yours/your sons? You never know?
I'm so sorry to leave you guys hanging. It was a long day yesterday and I went to bed once I got home. I slept late too! Usually I'm up at 4AM - I slept in till 8AM today!
Ok......we went to see the puppy yesterday. Once we got to the hotel where my ex was going to meet us - I chickened out. I just couldn't see the puppy after losing Percy because I knew I couldn't make a rational decision. My husband, on the other hand, seemed like a kid himself. He had been so sad about Percy but when we got there he perked up like a kid at Christmas. So he went and met the puppy. I stayed in the truck.
About an hour later he comes prancing back with a grin on his face from ear to ear - says he has no idea what the puppy is but that it is a beautiful pup, very playful and energetic (hmmmm......now I'm worrying about chewed up shoes already!).
The ironic part - and this is going to blow your minds - is that my ex knew we had the labs - but nothing about them. When my DH was playing with the pup my ex - just out of the blue - says that the people who owned them puppies called this one Percival! He was given this name because the couple was about to get married and the puppy chewed up the brides veil - and Percival means "to pierce the veil". Percival is also the elongated name for Percy.
Is this not strange or what??? My mouth has fallen to the floor at this point and my DH is in disbeleif that such a strange sense of fate has happened. Mind you, my ex never knew our labs names.
Now my DH is on this trip that Percy had to die so that his spirit could fill the body of a puppy that we were meant to have. He went on and on about how we had made up our minds that we were taking this pup to a shelter - and then Percy dies - and then this pup shares nearly the same name. I felt like I was at an Indian burial ceremony last night trying to absorb all this 'spirit' stuff......which I admit, he made it sound so good...lol
Anyway, I still have not seen the puppy. My ex just decided to stay for the weekend so I could make up my mind. He is coming later today to get our son and we are taking the puppy until Sunday to see he it reacts to Piper and all. This way, my son does not have to know about it in case things don't work out.
DH says the puppy is mostly black with a little white on it. He says it is clearly a lab mix, but he doesn't know what its mixed with. I will get a pic of it when the pup arrives and put it on dogster. Maybe you guys can help identify what it may be.
Needless to say, I think if I turn the pup away at this point, I'll catch my DH out in the yard with a fire and a peace pipe trying to summon Percy's spirit back. I think that emotionally this puppy could be good healing for my DH if nothing else and if my son doesn't care for the pup - my DH will have no problem doing so.
This is the strangest thing that has ever happened in my life. I almost want to just say 'lets keep the dog' to see what other strange occurances it will bring us!

OMG!!!! I know I might sound like a loon but to me it does seem like Fate is playing a huge part in this. I personally don't believe in such strange coincidences. Everything has a purpose. I'm glad you decided to see how it will go with Piper and I truly hope all works out well. Please keep us posted.
Wow Ansy! First of all I just found out about Percy and I am so sorry. :( That was so sad and I can't believe that could happen. Then with this new puppy and the story with the name and all well....that is too freaky and at this point I would have to say go for it, if it is in your heart to do so. I know one could never replace the other but it will probably help ease the pain a little. And, your DH does not seem to be the one who needs convincing so that is a huge plus! Good luck with all of this and keep us posted.
Yep..that fate is a strange phenomenon!! Your story is awesome and gives me chills! I wish you guys all the best in making this decision (and hope you don't have to break out the peace pipes!!). Keep us posted!
