I just got Mandy's registration for this year. I don't mind spending money for anything our babies need, but with the cost of vet bills and everything else it just gripes me to have to pay a city registration on my dogs when they get vaccinated.
In the town that i grew up in we never had to register our dogs. But now it is $10 a year for an altered dog and $20 or an unaltered dog. I don't mind paying the money for the simple fact that if they were to ever get loose it would help to get them back to me.
It also helps to weed out irresponsible owners who don't get their dogs vac like they should.

For me, it's not with the city but with the county. Here it's $12.50 a year for altered or $37.50 for unaltered. They also will put your dogs microchip number in your computer file as a cross reference.
Nope sure haven't, I'm suppose to but I don't b/c we don't have to register our kids why our dogs? It's stupid. But if your dog runs away and they pick him up and he is not registered then you have to pay a $40.00 fine. But i leash walk my dogs so hopefully they never get away.
I don't know maybe I shouldn't feel the way I do, but it just gets tiresome that they stick a tax on everything they can. My phone bill alone has more little taxes for this and that, that the little taxes end up being as much as the phone bill. I just thought with all we put out on trying to keep them healthy and all we are out each month anyway on special needs stuff, all I need is another tax.
Look at it this way. Some one need to pay for the AC officers, employees and facilities that have to take care of hundreds of dogs everyday. Licensing is one way to do it. Taxes and licensing fees are necessary evil that is needed for a government to function. Now how the money is actually spent, that is a whole different discussion.
A license is also a way for the city to make sure your dog is vaccinated against rabies. In my area the AC will go door to door once a year to check on licenses. If you have an unlicensed dog, you’ll get a fine. If you do not pay or refuse to get a license, then they’ll take you dog away.
They only cared about spaying here too. Plus the one i got is for life... so even if they wanted rabbies.. in 3 years, I could let it expire, and no one would know, not that I would.. just.. ppl could.
I dont think that the animal control is paid exclusivly out of funds generated by the licencing of dogs. I know being involved in county government and politics as i have in the past there are budget line items in every city or minicapality. That money comes from all the money generated in the county not just licences. I was curious as to what if any ordences were in my area which is not in any city or village limits and there re no limits or ordances on number of pets. I was under the impression it was 4...but I found out otherwise. I have seen ( first hand in the past) in my local animal control that it didnt matter if you had licences or microchipped dogs...if it was a purebred and they got it either stray or surrender they contacted a rescue (wink wink...who was really a person who profited on these dogs) or until it was brought to the counties eyes they used to be sold to class B dealers...and the cash NEVER made it to the budget as revenue. A lady who founded the local fledgling humane society in my county blasted all of this in the papers and still it took 7 years for it to stop. Well..just the class B has stoped..the roaving Rescue group gets called and they spirit out all purebreds and either keep them if it is a breed that they themselves breed especially rotts...but they claim to get them to other rescues in the state..When called on to show proof of this they denied it..So..I dont know..I have no faith in our Animal Control..He is worthless and unless you call the poilce you can not pin point a time to get in the shelter to see if your lost pet is there..It is crazy...but happens to this day..
In So.Calif , we have to lisence by 4 months old, then renew yearly. Its $10 for altered and I can't remember the exact price, I think about $150 for unaltered. So I guess you could call that registering.

I live mesquite, and have never regestar my dogs with the city when I get them vaccinated. Daisy was reg, the year I got her from the pound, but other then that I havent done it. I know Iam suppose to, but the city dosen't really inforce it.
ours is by county, but the same amount for the whole state. you just register inoyur county. its $7 and $6 for unaltered and altered, rspectively. i took proof of s/n and had them with their rabies tags on. the kid who did the forms couldnt have been less interested. a lifetime license, available for chippd/tattooed dogs, is $so. for life. if your dog lives past 5 it pays for itself :P of course, MY county ran out of those tage...maybe next year.
I live in Palm Beach County, Florida. The towns and cities don't require a registration, but the county does. My puppy isn't yet registered because she's notold enough. A dog or cat get registered at the time it receives a rabies vaccine, and every year thereafter.
Not sure of the fee, but I know it's less if the pet is spayed, If you have a guide dog, there is no charge.
