Yes, it is, though in limited quantities. We give ours bits of apples, carrots, pears, and they love it! Just make sure they're peeled if the skins have been in contact with pesticides. One of our dogs was horribly sick one spring..had the WORST case of diarrhea. It was gross! Well, upon investigating the yard, she had filched NUMEROUS apples off of the neighbors' trees and had eaten about 60 of them and hidden the cores behind one of my azalea hedges. The little brat! Once she was better we got a laugh out of it. Foods to avoid include: chocolate, raisins, onions (too many can damage red blood cells and cause them to burst, leading to anemia), and dairy with the exception of egg white and cottage cheese, since dairy is often difficult for adult dogs to digest. Cottage cheese is very digestible, and is sometimes utilized in special cases where alternate protein sources are needed. Enjoy your pup!
My two Schnauzers both love fruit especailly banana's and apples. I feed them a raw diet so once a week is there fruit and veggi day theymay get turnip, broccoli, carrots, leafy greens, beans, squash you name it they love it!! I actually put meat and veggies down for them just to see what they preferred and they went for the veggie and fruits!! But like the other posts said watch the amount as it will cause their stools to get verrry loose but where mine are use to it I have no problems.
My dogs eat apples, grapes, watermelon and grapefruit. One thing you don't want to do is let them eat the seeds of apples. I've also read that grapes, if given a large quantity of them can be harmful too. Someone mentioned dairy products - plain yogurt is good for them too.
Yes, I read somewhere that dachsunds love frozen grapes, so I tried it with my two. One of them loves them, when I open the freezer door, he gets so excited. The other spits them out. So, I guess its just a preference.
when I was litle I had a dog that would follow me to the garden and the only way she would eat peas was if I shlled them for her. she also ate raspberrys off the bushs. and then we had a male german sheperd who stole a neighbors basket of peas lol
The only fruit my daushound won't eat were grapes. I guess dogs are just as different as people. My lhasa won't eat anything that isn't meat or dog food. The dalmatian will eat any that hits the floor.
Yes dogs can eat pineapple!! I asked my vet about why my dogs eat their own poo and each others (YUK!!) and if there was anything I could do to stop them. He said I could either buy tablets or try the cheaper alternative, pineapple. Apparently there is something in pineapple that doesn't make the poo so tasty?? But I wouldn't give too much just incase it upsets their tummies.
My beagle loves mangoes and bananas. What about cheese, is it ok to give her some? She can be in another part of the house but if I'm cutting up some cheese (fontina) she'll come and sit next to me until I give her some.
