It's been so hot up here that I only put the dogs outdoors during the night. They have about an acre to run in, but evidently that isn't enough, at least they think not.
I went out to let them in at 7am and they are both gone. Looks like either they dug their way out of the pen, under the gate, or someone dug their way in from the outside.
I've been riding around, questioning anyone that I see outdoors to see if they've seen them, but so far no luck, I just came home to call the radio stations and the shelter. No one is at the shelter, so I'll take a ride out there to see if someone dropped them off in their pen.
Please say a prayer that I find my dogs. Here I thought I was doing the best thing for them, only leaving them out when the sun wasn't shining on them and now they are gone.
Well, the 2 little houdini's are back home. I sprung them from jail at a cost of $25 per head. This is their first offense, next stop is the big pen.
I brought all their shot records and licenses out to the shelter with me and picked them up. They were so happy to see me. Daisy was cowering at the back of the dog house, she was really happy to see me and came right out then, but Tyke, being the social butterfly that he is, came right out to the worker.
Not sure where they were, Tyke was full of cobwebs, so don't have a clue. Daisy is really dirty, but that could just be from running around, since it is so dry in this area.
Anyways, thanks for the suggestions and concerns, I appreciate the support. I never thought of the fliers, but that is a good idea. Hopefully I won't have to go through this again.
From now on, they will only go outside when I can supervise them or will go into the kennel outdoors. As long as I can physically see them, they will be allowed to play in their big yard.
I am exhausted, as I've been searching for them for over 2 1/2 hours and it is beastly hot. Both dogs are sacked out on the floor, enjoying the fans.
So glad you found your babies. That would be terrible to lose one, but both? I think sometimes when dogs get out they can get disorented and can't find their way home. Thats what happened to my little mini doxie. He was old too and I think he just wanted to get out and nose around alittle bit and then he was lost and couldn't find his way home. But, glad yours had a happy ending.
I am sooooo happy for you it is so hard when an animal is lost. Maybe you should think about microchipping them? Just to be safe? My cat is missing and I wish now I would have! I have my golden microchipped it costs about $27.00 and is well worth the piece of mind if they ever end up in a shelter. talk to your local vet about it. I am so glad tha tthey are safe and home
