I moved into a new home this summer. It was built in 1890. It is very cute and has all that "great personality." It's just those darned ghosts that are annoying!! tee hee... I am a resonable person, I SWEAR!!! The only strange thing that has happened to me is the basement door locked all of a sudden. Even with no lock on the knob. I couldn't get in for two weeks until I busted the door frame. But anyway, my cat does some weird creeping around the house from time to time and then tears through the room for no reason. (I realize she is a cat and does this if she sees a squirrel outside, but still, at night it is creepy) My dog will sit on my bead at night, stare at the half closed door and growl! It makes my heart skip a beat. I have convinced myself that if I live with ghosts, they are nice ghosts. Just looking for others' experiences with this to see what sort of weird stories you all have.
Dont scare me or make me think of stuff like that!!! lol. I live alone in a one bedroom apt and my dogs growl at nothing and bark at night. It freaks me out but I usually just tell myself they hear something outside. We actually had a whole 200+ post on dogs seeing ghosts.
When I bought my house 2 1/2 years ago that one of the questions I asked the former owners and realiters. I ask has anybody ever died in this house and do you have any ghost. I was told that they have to give you all the history on the house or the sale can be void. Thank God that nothing has ever happened at my house. The first owners who built the house are in a retirement home. My husband also works nights so I'm home alone till 10:30. It's me the girls(Dogs) and ADT.
Although I do believe in ghosts, since I have been watching this show Ghost Hunters on the SciFi (on tonight actually) channel I have learned to debunk alot of stuff I would have thought of as "paranormal activity" before.
I hate to be a party pooper but with different climate changes wood doors and frames can swell and it would be very hard to open doors. As well as the foundation of an old home changing and shifting.
I do believe dogs see things that we can not. After all a ghost is supposed to be composed of energy and I believe a dog can see that and react to it.

Bijou definitely freaks out and starts growling from time to time. But we live in an apartment building for college students - I don't imagine there's enough history here for any ghosts to want to hang out!
I attribute her strange behaviour to hearing a noise, or smelling a smell that was imperceivable to me.
BUT, I definitely do believe that dogs can sense things that we can't.
i seen a ghost before. it happened about 10 years ago when i seen a little boy in a chair looking at me. it scared me.
my mom said she was reading a book at 2:00am one night and she seen a shadow going into the bathroom and her old dog barked up a storm in the bathroom. no one was their but the dog sensed something their.
Not all ghosts are bad to put ur mind as ease....we have a few living here with us in my mother-in-laws house. I've had one actually save my life. She was dressed in all white, from her head to her toes.. I was very very sick and had an absess in my throat along with throat problems I've had since I was very young. She stood at the foot of the bed and I was just about to go to sleep. (My throat was closed to the point of I had to fight in order to breathe. I could barely open my mouth to talk!) Anyway.. she pushed me into going in to the E.R. and wouldn't let me go to sleep. I believe I would have died if she hadn't have done this, because if I went to sleep I wouldn't have been able to breathe. My mother-in-law recently lost her min. poodle and she told me the story of him coming to visit her the other day. She was making dreamcatchers and had feathers lying on her bed to attatch to them.. all diff. colors, when a white feather fell from the ceiling and landed right on the spot where Boxer would always lay. She asked if he was here and felt a presence of him laying in his normal spot there beside her on the bed. Ninja (the rotty and Boxer's best friend) also felt his presence and knew he was there. He jumped up on the bed and sniffed that exact same spot and curled up next to him and went to sleep. My mother-in-law had finally had her two boys back together.
Yes I think my cat Jazmin for sure can see ghost. She will start to act all crazy, running around the house like something has scared her half to death, hissing at things me or my boyfriend dont see.. Missy our beagle is scared to death to sleep in the dark. If we were to turn all the lights off she starts to scream and lays still until we turn it back on?? I dont know if its just me or what but if I am sitting in the frontroom I always think I see something in the kitchen.. Its freaks me out..
I'll just say this: Thank you God for allowing us the means to build a house from the ground up so I would not have to deal with ghosts! FYI....now if I get a dog and it starts acting wierd...some of you better be on here in the middle of the night when I'm freaking out about ghosts!!! haha
SM,Don't think that just because your house is brand new that you don't/won't have "visitors" at some point. Not to freak you out or anything, but the ground that many, many houses are built on hold the spirits from long ago........the boards that are used(wood,sub-flooring,etc)had to come from trees, and, those trees may have come from Holy ground or an inhabited area from long ago. The newer "wood" that is used for homes may have been mixed with many things to make the composite, but it still holds true wood in it.
Also,no one has to die in your home for it to be inhabited by the spirit world at some point in it's life time. As well,if your home was already built and lived in,prior to your inhabitance of it,the walls will hold all of the memories from days and years gone by.....you and your animals will experience this kind of inhabitance as well at some point in your time of living with-in the same walls.
On to answer your question-Yes,ghosts do exist,. I myself can see, hear and feel them. The spirit world is closer to you than you might think. There are spirits, ghosts, and demonic presences that are all around us in every day life.
The thing about animals is that they're a lot more in touch with their spirituality than most people. We like to say we are but if something doesnt agree with what we want to consider "reality" we force it away
Yes. Dogs (and cats) see spirits. Shotz saw them, and after she passed, now Maggie sees Shotz, who has taught her the wisdom of dealing with Mom.
True story I was there, My mom moved into this old house built in the 1900 it used to be a old funaral parlor. My mom moved in and she new something was up with this house it was haunted, my mom told me about her dogs strange behavior. He could not be still he was always after something. One day we were out side and heard a noise the dog had jummped through the 2nd story window. He is ok but what scared him so bad ?
My close friend used to live in a condo where her mom kept her grandpa stored in a box in the basement. Dead of course lol. It freaked me out when she told me, she even showed me the box. So there was this one night when she and I and her dog (doberman) were watching tv upstairs alone, and suddenly her dog just rushed down stairs, we thought she just had to go outside to pee, but we heard a door close like 2 minutes later. It scared the pants off us. So when we went down to check it out, her dog was constantly barking at the wall beside the door. I was litterally shaking..thinking maybe someone came in somehow even though the door was locked. Turned out it wasn't anything, but I do believe that maybe her dog saw or sensed something, because why would he just all of a sudden run downstairs and bark? Took us like an hour to get to sleep after that. Talk about scary.
...and what's your phone number again?? (so I can call you at 2 am when I'm SURE I hear something?!) *joking*
I honestly do believe in spirits. I've seen two for sure in my life. One was scary as hell and the other was quite sad, but peaceful.
I guess I never even thought about the land or the wood used for the house. That never crossed my mind at all. I find all of it really interesting. You sure seem to know an awful lot about it, that's pretty cool. I like to believe that I have an open mind. I try not to be closed to anything at all really because I would hate to miss something important in life by being close-minded.
I really didn't want to have had any die a horrible death in my home...that was important to me. I wouldn't like that kind of energy around me. Although, I suppose with all the battles that happened in Montana, I'm sure someone at some point did die on this land. I don't feel any negative energy though. The idea of houses holding memories makes sense...and explains a lot about my parent's house and the feelings that are there. Now I don't feel nearly as stupid for saying the house has a "feeling" about it.
I don't mind spirits and ghosts...I'd thank demonic presences to keep their distance though. How do you know so much about all this?
To keep it pet related...maybe when I get a dog...that will be something I'll keep an eye on. Heck...might take her to my mother's to see what the dog thinks of the "feeling" of the house!
I would actually recommend taking your dog(when you find the right one)to your mothers house. I'm happy to know,as well, that I was able to help you to understand that your personal feelings of "different" when visiting your mothers house wasn't "just your imagination" :)
Edited to add-Please post and let me know as soon as you see this,so I can remove my e-mail addy :)
