just wanted to see everyones thoughts on this. i am a hunter myself, and when i make a kill, i use as much of the animal i possibly can...don't believe in wasting. i know there are several urban problems with wild animals rooting thru the trash cans, destroying property...ect. also overpopulation in rural areas, yet there are alot of people who don't want these animals hunted. so, what do we do? let them keep tearing things up, getting over populated and have a disease outbreak that wipes them all out?
I hope this dont mark me on the black list. Population controll is a major factor but theres plenty of reasons hunting is still permissible.I dont find it cruel at all. We live to hunt here in South carolina and we abide by all the State Laws so in the eyes of SCDNR I can hunt and still be a responsible, contributing member of society!
This one I am on the fence about. I don't mind hunting so much as long as as much of the animal as possible is used or the meat is donated to charties for needy families. I hate to see animals die by gun shot. But I also hate to see them hit by cars. That is something that is hard for people to deal with. i know that because we hit a deer this past Nov. And it tore me up inside then and now. So like I said I am really on the fence with this one.
hunting is an acient way of life, completly acceptable and as long as your not killing and skinning and letting carcases bloat, it is completly ethical. As far as that goes, some people say they don't eat any flesh, well good for them but scientist have proven that vegetables scream so I say if it concerns you so much, don't eat anything! Then we wont have to listen to you!!!!!
i am not a vegetarian. i do not hunt, but do not down others that do. my uncle took me "froggin" when i was 10. i was traumatized by the whole experience and never developed the stomach to kill. i am glad there are people that can handle it. i love a good bacon-cheeseburger or a juicy pot roast. but the bottom line is , it should always be done humanely. with no suffering to the animal involved.
we went out in the swampy part of the lake in the pitch dark. he would shine the flashlight on the bullfrogs in the water. the light hypnotizes them. then he would spear them. i couldnt deal with it so i started splashing the water and scaring them off. i got left on the shore in the dark. that was it for me. wouldnt eat any of the frog legs either !
I'll start hunting this year. Elk and Deer. It's actually healthier than the cow meat you buy at the store and it offers population control, which is good for here. I really don't see anything wrong with hunting at all. JMO
ok...outside of deer...what about FUR BEARERS? any opinions there?
and yes, i have eaten furbearers, such as racoon, groundhog, rabbit, squirrel...ect. i'm a sicko...i know...lol i don't like to kill for purpose of fur only. and if i can't make a clean dead shot...i won't even pull my gun up on it.
i give a lot of deer meat to local poor people...in one year i gave away the meat of 14 deer...yah, most were fresh hit roadkill, but atleast it got used, instead of sit'n on the highway. seemed like the conservation dept. was always calling me...lol.
My husband hunts mostly deer, bear and turkey. Now that we have a bird dog, he's going to go for pheasant, grouse, etc. He doesn't bother with small game (squirrels, etc) Unless it's a groundhog in our garden!
