I didnt know that Newfie is from Ohio, where at girlie?
Perhaps Joce is familiar with St Johns west shore hospital....
Geese overrun that land during breeding season and they incovienience every person who goes to the hosptial by chasing them thru the parking lots and also impeding their entrance INTO the hospital...
An elderly person could be hurt (I am sure it has happened already) and people who are already under mental diress for going to the hospital or looking for a loved one, have to run a gauntlet to get in?!?!
i dont think anyone here is pro-kill. but most of us understand the need for "thinning out". like the animals euthanized in shelters. it can not be helped. when there is no room for them, what choice is left ? i think the biggest concern is the WAY the animals are euthanized. with the injection, they go peacefully and painlessly. i watched a video of dogs being gassed. they were screaming. i can still hear their screams in my head . it was horrible beyond words. when we had to put our 13 year old peke down, she just peacefully went to sleep in my sons arms. total difference. with hunting, they have seasons. it is basically a thinning out of the deer. they are not being bludgoened to death and some people count on the deer to help feed their families. i just think that sometimes things need to be done. if the geese are becoming a problem to the public, then something has to be done. as long as it is done humanely, with no suffering to the animal, then so be it.
I agree with Isolde ,why kill innocent birds because there are too many? There are other ways to cure the problem. Thank god no one wants to hurt the Geese that hang out at the pond where I live. It's a park. I love watching the goosling babies grow up.
Holy Crap there are Canada Geese in the US to. I live right on Lake Ontario. There are Geese Everywhere, and so is the poop. Ask my dogs, they eat their fair share, UMM! Last Summer very early in the morning they rounded a couple of hundred geese from the lake and , drove them up north and let them go. The park was so quiet all summer. Lets blame the right people here, us, we feed them??? There are signs everywhere to not feed the geese and yet people still do it? They aren't a food source to any animal, except maybe a fox or coyote, and the goose would have to be ill, old or injured to be captured.(or really stupid) When they are nesting they can be a little protective, we had a pair nest behind the clinic and would chase the dogs when we were out for a walk. But If you hold your arms in the air and walk towards them, most will back off. Anyone heard of Snow Geese, they flock in huge flocks, So Canada Geese are not much different. They do have a program where they are going around and brushing something on the eggs to prevent them from hatching. Except for the poop issue I like them. But Instead of killing them for no reason, use them for something, but not human consumption, they are probly full of parasites. But there is nothing cuter then a family of geese or ducks crossing the street, we actually have geese and duck cross walk signs around here. : )
