We just found this little puppy roaming the street with both her parents. The puppy came right for me, but the parent were barking and the male was very very mean. Tried to attack my friend and even another dog. I didnt want to leave the puppy roaming around on the streets, so we took her but we couldnt get near the parents, so we left them alone. But we did write a note and left it on the house where the dogs tried to hide. However after looking at the puppy, she has scars on her nose and on her ribs, and she was very dirty. My friend wants to keep her, so my question, if they call should we tell them we have the puppy or should we say i'm sorry wronbg number..lol A puppy that age shouldnt be outside and alone running on the streets or have scars onher already. The male we noticed had a huge scar on his back and a few smaller ones, it looks like he fights all the time. I know its wrong, but I think the puppy is better off with my friend, who want to take her to vet and take care of her. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v634/Starlight_2901/100_0342.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v634/Starlight_2901/100_0346.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v634/Starlight_2901/100_0347.jpg
I'm sorry, but that puppy does not look neglected. That is someones puppy... It would be wrong to keep it for your own selfish "it's a cute puppy and I want to keep it" needs.
You need to do everything you can to give whoever, piece of mind and get them back their pet.
I would be so angry and upset if someone did that to me, god forbid my dogs got out. (which has happened when irresponsible neighbors have not latched the gate. Thankfully they came right back in, but it could have ended badly.)
i agree with pope. i too , would be crushed if my dogs got loose and someone kept them. the owners may be frantic. the scars do not mean that the owner neglected them. they could have gotten in an altercation with another dog while on the loose , or been there since they got them. you need to do all you can to find the owners. how would you feel if it were your dog and someone didnt try to locate you and instead gave your dog away. i know if it were mine, i would be devasted without them.
I agree, I don't think this puppy looks neglected either. I don't even see any scars on it.
The parents could have been barking at you because you were taking their baby away. Would you put up a fight to someone stealing your child? I know I would.
I would suggest you find the rightful owners of this little bugger and get him where he belongs. They may be looking for someone to buy him or a good home for it. I definitly would not tell them they have the wrong number. That is not a good idea.
Do what is right, and right will come to you in return.
So far no one has called and the dogs are still running loose, the note we left hasnt been touched. P.S. Just because you cant see the scars doesnt mean she doesnt have them and I'm lying about it. And she was pretty dirty when we picked her, I wasnt about to leave her on the street with her parents, she is so little she could have been hit by a car, its a busy street.

i think if anything, you should trying getting the parents somehow too, by letting animal control know at least, if u can't catch them yourself. just because the puppy was easier to catch doesn't mean the parents deserve less.......
it reminds me of that one thread a few months ago about how someone "picked up" the cuter looking dog as opposed to the meaner looking one?
were you and your friend truly thinking of the puppy's needs only? i think i would have picked up the entire family if it had been me, but i am not in your shoes so who am i to say.
i would be absolutely devastated if those were my dogs and i knew someone was preparing to keep them forever. but also i am someone who was depressed for days because she lost her cell phone and even made reward posters.. have very strong attachments to anything that is mine so...
okay i just re-read your post and it sounds to me like you're pretty sure the dogs DO have an owner and that you also are half-deciding on lying to them and telling them you don't have the puppy just because you assume that they've been neglected.
hate to say it (ok maybe not) but karma's a b**ch, so just think about what you're doing. maybe in the end the owner, if there is one at all, will be happy to have u take the puppy off their hands, but for the time being maybe you can call AC and have them pick up the other dogs too.

I would personally put an ad in the paper, maybe put a pic up at the humane society saying 'found dog' and go around the neighborhood first and see what happens. Hopefully you can find the owner, but I think it's best to be honest. Especially because things aren't always how they seem, and maybe the karma will be returned if you look for the owners :)
I also never said I wasnt going to call animal control, that is all we have here. We are also planning on going back to see if they got the note tomorrow. But if they are one of the unfortunate people that have been deported lately those dogs will probably still be there. Unfortuantely they have started deporting people out here for being illegal. And since there are 3 cars in the drive and no one answering, it's probably what happened. And we took the puppy to protect her, believe what you will, there is no way I was going near the male, he is vicous, I will let animal control handle the parents. I have been bitten before and dont plan on being bitten again. I did what I thought was best for the puppy, whether you agree or not, its not what I asked. I asked what would you do, I didnt ask for judgement. I looked up and down the street where we found them, no on knew who they belonged to, we left a note, no one has called. All I can do is wait and call animal control. You know if some of you would just give advice and not go around judging people, alot of these people might not get so upset. I have been on this site for over a year now, and I see this happen alot. I usually dont say. but lucky me Im pmsing and and I'm premenapausal (sp). So I today I speak up. I usually change my mind half a dozen times before doing what I should do to begin with. But if you had seent he scars on the male and seen the puppy running loose, many of you would have done the same thing. Look, leave a note and call animal control, and most of you would have taken the puppy home to make sure she was safe.
Don't let words upset you. The puppy is lucky you took him in. Did he seem hungry when you feed him ?When you went back to the house where you left the note where the two dogs still there? Usually found ads are free to place in the paper, just don't put to much info in the ad though. Good luck.
I agree....call AC for the two adults if you dont think it is safe to get them yourself, but dont leave them to be killed just becasue they arent cute puppies. Do all you can to find the owners, hanging posters, placing ads, contacting the local AC or shelter to inform them you have the pup, go door to door.
It is possible the dogs simply got out and got interested in something and wandered too far....the pup didnt look neglected, abused, unerfed, or as if they have been on the streets for a long time. It is the only right thing to do to give the true owners a chance to get them back, sign them over, etc. Not just have you tell them 'sorry wrong number' because he is so cute and you want to keep him. Poor parent dogs probably miss him as well.
You should call animal control to go and take care of the adult dogs, and tell them you would be more than happy to keep the baby because you felt the living conditions were unhealthy and as a first response you took her back home. Animal control will probably let you keep the baby if they see she is being well looked after, as for the people, if they call say "wrong number" and let animal control deal with it.
You did the right think as babies are more vulnerable, and if it really was on the streets as you say.. i wish you the best of luck with the little cutie.
As you think the people have been deported then animal control should be contacted.
