My pits are not spoiled house dogs. They never were and never will be. The way that they are bred prevents that.
I THINK THIS STATEMENT BY SHIGGS SAYS IT ALL!
Shiggs is strong for standing up to people on tp? What a joke! Stand up for whats right! Be strong and don't follow with the group around you to make a few bucks selling aggressive dogs. There are enough aggressive pits to go around. Shiggs, you don't need to add to the problem. WHO buys your dogs? What do they do with them? They are not bred to be family pets so what are they bred for? Pulling and work dogs can still be friendly and live inside with people and not be aggressive. All breeds can be good at what they are bred to do, and still love people and not want to kill other animals! Thats what RESPONSIBLE breeders do!! The only reason someone would breed for aggression is for fighting. you might not fight them but I bet people you sell them to do. I can understand why you don't sleep at night. You breed for all the WRONG reasons.
Shiggs as a adult getting ready for med school. You should know right from wrong. 99% of America would not want to own a aggressive pit because there is NO USE for a dog like that, UNLESS you are selling them to shady people that are doing illegal things with them. I think you should go down to your local shelter and watch them put to sleep all the stray aggressive pits they find on the street. Watch them stick that needle in their arm and kill them, because they are to aggressive to be someones pet and now have no job in life. Compassion for you? Not a chance!
I agree with you pebbles .the only way it's going to stop if shiggs dont respond. she's not going to back down they can't tear her down, nor can they make her mad enough to leave tp. I just wish they will leave her along b/c she not going to give in to nothing they say ...so just leave her be....lmao.. WATCH! next some pea-brain is going to come after me. lmao ....IT'S OVER WITH!!!!!
I want to make it absolutely clear that I DO NOT AGREE with what shiggs is doing with her breeding program. She wants to breed true to how a pit was "bred to be." I think it's a bad tradition that should be ended.
Although I do not agree, I have to admit that I see she is trying to maintain a characteristic of her chosen breed. Although it's an extreme case, at the root of it, it's like ear cropping -- People want their dogs to look the way "they are supposed to." Sure, there may be some pain to the dog involved, but it's the tradition...
I think it is significant that she has chosen to stay here and post on this board, rather than retreating to boards that are tolerant of breeding for dog agression. Will she change her breeding habits? I don't know. But I tend to believe that there is a better chance for her to change her mind if she stays here than if she leaves.
Her particular life experience has led her into this breeding program. Perhaps the future will lead her out. In the mean time, let's draw on her knowledge and experience.
Im standing up for what i believe in. If you dont agree with it thats fine. Im not forcing you to agree with anything. I dont "make a few bucks" selling my dogs. They are good animals with lots of time and money invested into them. I sell the pups i have because i cant keep them all. There is no way to do it. I know my limits.
I have told you, local dogmen and women, and people from around the state or neighboring states. They raise them, work em, and breed em just like i do. I do it on alot smaller scale than most. I dont agree with fighting and i would not knowingly place a dog or pup with somebody who does it.
What do you want me to say? That i breed them for my own amusment? I have told you numerous times why i breed them and you just dont listen.
My dogs dont want to kill people. I dont have human aggressive dogs. Again, how many times do i have to repeat myself befor it clicks with you? Dog aggression and human aggression are two completely different things. Wether you believe me or not is your problem.
You have no idea about pits so why do you keep jumping my case about what they are bred for. They are not fighters. I have never fought/rolled/or been involved in any kind of activity like that.
My sleeping problems have nothing to do with my animals. Its because of insomnia and i choose not to take medication for it.
I know right from wrong and every excuse inbetween. Been there, done that, nothing phases me anymore. There are alot of people that own and breed these type of dogs. I am not alone in this world. Some people choose to preserve the breed as it was meant to be instead of a flashy showdog.
I have been to the shelters. I have held my own dogs while the needle is put in thier vein and they die. I brought them into this world and i have stood by them when they left.
I know what happens to pits in the shelter. Shelters down here wont even hold them for the 3 day hold. They put em to sleep as soon as they walk through the door. Not because they are aggressive and unadoptable, but because they are pits. Most of it doesnt even have to do with the dogs personality. It has to do with thier breed.
Did i ask for compassion? Sympathy? No i dont want it. I dont want a dang thing you have to offer.
Shiggs I don't think you realize that we all know the differences between human and animal aggression, we also know that both are terrible, and can have devestating consequences.
You on the other hand choose to keep breeding for one of the traits that has given people a road to travel to believing these dogs are dangerous. It does not matter if the dogs are animal or human aggressive, they are aggressive. And if someone saw a Pit Bull Terrier being aggressive towards another dog, then they would have every right to be afraid of them regardless of the fact that the dog may not be human aggressive. Because that means, that dog can never be taken to an off-leash park, that dog cannot be trusted at even an on-leash park. that dog can never be taken in public anywhere near other animals. It will never see the beach. It will never play with another dog after a certain age in it's puppyhood. It will only know it's 15 minutes or however long amount of exercise it get sthat it shows you how happy it is to finally be given, it only knows one end of a chain. It only knows the hundreds of flies that run across it's body each day that it cannot control because it had nowhere to go. It doesn't know what it feels like to go a certain distance and not be held back. Do you have any idea what that does to a dog's mind?
You can give us all the opinions you want, but unfortunately they are being wiped away by the factual information that you choose to look over. And I predict that somewhere in your next post, you'll surely say "look I've already told you my dogs are fine", and I've already read it dozens of times, and frankly, I don't believe a word of it. I highly doubt that, given the description of how you raise your dogs and reasons for breeding them, that they are in the very very small percentage of dogs who are chained and get more than a few minutes of attentino, love and devotion each day.
Regardless of breed, reasons for breeding, or anything else related to...chained dogs are nearly 3 times more likely to bite. It does not matter how much you've bred out human aggression. I don't care if you choose to believe it or not, but when a very knowledgable person brings up this information, it's worth taking into consideration.
My dogs are not allowed at dog parks of any kind. They are not taken out in public after the age of 5-6 months depending on the dogs. My pups are socialized when they are young. 6 months hit and they stay in my yard.
My dogs get about 20 mins in the morning apiece and 1-2 hours at night. The same as they would get if they were in the house. My dogs dont have fleas. I treat my yard multiple times a year to prevent parasites of any kind. Waste is not left in the yard. It is cleaned up everynight to prevent fies and other things from bothering they dogs. They also have treated tags that attach to thier collars to keep bugs away. When the gnats are bad all get a cream rubbed around their eyes to keep them away. They do not lead horrible lives. Heck half the stuff you named off my mixed dogs that i owned as a child never did. I had a husky mix that was horribly dog aggressive. He did fine unless another dog was around. He lived a perfectly happy life until the age of 15.
"Do you have any idea what that does to a dog's mind?" No so why dont you explain it to me because you seem to know so much about dog psychology. A dog cant miss something if hes never had it.
I have heard that millions of times. You know that over 80% of kids are bitten by a dog because they arent being supervised?
Nobody, including animals, can get into my yard unless they cut the fence or climb it. I take the precautions i do to protect the other people around me.
Pearl, im going for neuro-psychiatry. I found it a few months ago while looking on the web. I have always been interested in psychology. I like to know what makes people tick. I planned on doing a minor in psychology before starting pre-med. The program i hope to be accepted into does the psychology part at the hospital.
I have an older brother who is autistic. My sister, who cares for him, takes him to the neurologist at the same teaching hospital i hope to attend. Thats how i decided on neurology.
Neuro-psychiatry looks at the connection between brain disorders and mental health issues.
