This totally sucks. The other day I was playing outside with one of my dogs. She was having fun with the tennis ball. Then she was just sitting there and a big, no huge mammoth tree fell on her. I was like worried, no in shock at first. I went to run over to her and what do I know next? She lifted the tree up off herself and threw it. Yes I'm glad she is safe and unharmed, BUT the tree landed on the house!!! It crashed through the roof, so now there is a big hole in my roof. Its destroyed. To make matters worse it fell off the roof onto my car :( Anyway I called the insurance company and they said they won't cover tree's thrown by dogs? I mean it wasn't like she was just playing with this tree throwing it! It fell on her! What do you think? They should pay because its still something that happened on my property (in my yard) to my property (my house) by my property (my dog). Well then they asked what breed. Pit Bull I told them, I guess I should have lied. Because now they want to drop me and black list Pit Bulls due to their aggressive nature towards trees and strength. Whatever this tree attacked her unprovoked! She was only defending herself. Well at least I should get the car fully replaced via insurance. I told them the tree just fell (like it did). They want someone to come take a look to make sure its totaled or whatever but I think I should have it towed to the salvage yard first so they don't see the big hole in my roof and wonder whats up. Now we've got birds and junk in there upstairs. Its been so windy too. So what would you do about everything? I already argued with these insurance people for hours about it.
Wow, a pit bull had the strength to throw an actual tree up high enough to put a hole in your roof and ruin your car? Amazing. I don't think I want to meet a dog that strong! I would expect the insurance to pay only because a tree fell on the house....
They said they don't have to! Its not "in their policy". I don't want to have to pay to fix the roof because I feel they should. Thats what insurance is for. I will pay the deductible no problem!!! I just don't understand.
I feel for you big time! I had a house fire on Sept. 8th and have been fighting big time with the insurance company. We hired a public adjuster, this has seemed to help some! Maybe you can check in to that yourself, just look in the phone book under public adjuster. I don't know if they would touch this or not, but worth a try. Also another thing you could do is tell them ( your insurance comapany ) that you want to be made "whole" again or you will contact the insurance commisioner in your area and filing a bad faith claim.
I don't get it either...! But if this is true, just tell them the the tree fell down on the roof..bounced off it and hit the car..then the dog... makes more sense. Tell them they must have miss understood you...
Savannah she didn't just lift the tree. Like right up and it fell back. You are right, forget the breed, she is more like a hulk Pit Bull though. You should see this movie, one of the dogs he fights looks just like my girl! So basically she is really strong. She stood up and boom the tree went flying, like she threw it with her strength off of her. It went like 30ft in the air and then landed on the house. I'm surprised it didn't fall through the 2nd story to the 1st.
You don't think my creative writing was good? Worth a shot I thought. On a scale of 1-10 what would you rate this troll like story?
KL we have had a real problem with our insurance and will be switching once everything is up to pair for state farm. They want things done that are more cosmetic then anything. It will be worth it though. It was also a fire. Luckily no damage to the house, but someone drove buy and started the fire by throwing a cigg out the car window is suspected. It burned down corrals fencing, field, out building, shed. This company basically lied about the policy, since being under insured they are not obligated to pay everything though. You can't prove what was told in a phone conversation. It was a lot of money in damages, paying 10k out of pocket and they would only pay $4000! After the work was done. How do you do the work if you don't have the money to do it? The girl that works for this company worked for the other company that insured the house at first. She called and offered my husband a "better but cheaper" policy and said that she was now working a BRANCH of the same company. Which turned out not to be true and that it was cheaper because of the under insurance. Too late now. State farm will actually save us a few hundred a year and be a better policy though. I made sure he looked into it thorough this time.
"She lifted the tree up off herself and threw it."
A Pit Bull did this? Wow what is it, MUSCLE DOG!! I might beleive it a little more if it were say, a Mastiff or Rottwieler or any LARGER breed for that matter, but a Pit Bull? How big was the tree? It sounds like it must have been pretty big to knock a hole in roof and CERTIANLY more than a Pit Bull could lift. I mean, i give the Pit Bull credit, it is storng, but not strong enough to life a tree and throw it across the yard and have it land on the roof causing damage.
If I'm not mistaken home owners insurance will not cover a tree landing on your car but your car insurance will if you have comp.
Landing on the house is a totally different story but each policy is different. I certainly would call your agent and visit with them. If is isn't covered he can tell you why, you may not have that coverage.
Most people don't know what they have for insurance until they need it and learn the hard way on what to have and look for.
Best of luck to you and I sure hope your house is covered.
Actually with my experience in weight pull larger doesn't at all mean stronger. A mastiff breed might have more size but that doesn't mean they have more strength. Pit Bulls and also American Bulldogs have held plenty of records over larger dogs. APBTs usually have more muscle then your average mastiff.
Also if you read my other post, she is like the one on the hulk. Just not as muscular. She is super strong though. So yes she is a muscle dog, she is like the dog in the movie.
I don't know how big the tree is. Do you want the measurement from around the tree or the weight or what?
"It went like 30ft in the air and then landed on the house. I'm surprised it didn't fall through the 2nd story to the 1st."
30 ft is 3 stories!!! I have seen the movie the hulk those dogs were as big as a VW.
If the tree was small. A mere 100 lbs. Your dog would have to have the potential energy of 100 ft lbs in it's body to move the tree 1 foot into the air. and this is in a perfect world where the tree is perfectly aerodnamic. then to propel it into the air 25 ft it would take 2500 ft lbs of potential energy in the dog. And this is moving the tree in an upward motion at the slowest speed possible in order to keep the tree moving up without gravity taking back over and pulling it down. And remember this is a mere 100bs. This also does not into account how long the tree was, and any of the abnormalities in shape trees have.
to give you an idea how much 2500 ft lbs is.
A brand new Chevy silverado 3500 with a 6.6l diesel engine at max can produce 365 horse which produces 660 ft lbs. This is Chevy's strongest pick up truck pick up you can buy.
And yout telling me a dog can produce over 4 times this amount of energy? The max towing capacity this truck can make is over 10,000 lbs. This means your dog should be able pull right around 40,000 lbs. And I gave you some generous breaks on the numbers. A perfect 100 lbs piece of mass. Not an akward tree. No matter how you slice it,

I believe a dog's finest hour, the greatest fulfillment he holds dear, is when he has worked his heart out in a good cause and lies exhausted on the field of battle-with a ball in his mouth."
Is it possible that because it happend so fast that you missed that tree actually hit the roof, then the car then your dog, and you were so freaked out that it happened, that you thought it happened the way you said. I mean really think about it, this just seems a little off!
