I couldn't find my kitten tonight and started calling for her as it was unusual for NOT to come to me when I open the door to take her in for the night....I started calling for her and heard her crying...she was very distressed...it was coming from my neighbors carport (Now note that four other of my precious cats had gone missing in the last 3 months one by one) I went to my neighbors with my husband and he knocked on the door to tell him to turn on the light so we could find her and get her...he told my husband that it was to cold to come outside...Waylon said "that's great...but I just need you to turn on the light"....so after he acted all weird...I went and got the flashlight and I found her in a trap....after I freaked out and screamed at him and asked him where my other cats were...he told me he took them and dumped them in Oklahoma somewhere...MY CATS ARE HUNGRY AND FREEZING AND THIRSTY and it's people like this that give everyone else a bad name. So I called the police after the neighbor had told me that it was the police that told him he could do this....a police officer came over and said that no, indeed the Gentry police would NOT tell him he could do that....but since it was on his property, the animal control officer possibly told him he could trap them. SURE...BUT DUMP THEM?? The deal is....I don't know where to go from here...my husband and I are the only ones that were there when he told us where he took them...I told the officer...but they didn't seem to interested and said animal control would call me tomorrow. I was looking on the Animal cruelty statutes for Arkansas and Oklahoma and in Oklahoma, dumping is a felony with fines up to $5000 and up to 7 years in prison. I couldn't find anything on trapping cats in Arkansas....I need help on what to do...I can't let this go. I preach to everyone else about this kind of stuff and it's not right for me to let something go...I owe it to Tino and Maggie to do whatever I can and the maximum. HELP ME PLEASE!!!!!!
If I was missing 4 cats in a 3 month time period, I think I would start working on containing my cats in my own home or yard. Perhaps buy a big dog kennel or maybe 2 and hook them together, so the cats have lots of room while they are outdoors.
In most places, it is against the law to let your cats run wild through the neighborhood. They must be licensed, vaccinated and leashed.
Is there a certain reason why you keep letting the cats or kittens run loose? Doesn't sound like your neighbors take too kindly to your pets in their yards or carports.
I doubt animal control would do much, other than write you a ticket for letting your animals run loose. Sorry, but I can't sugar coat it.
"MY CATS ARE HUNGRY AND FREEZING AND THIRSTY and it's people like this that give everyone else a bad name."
No, it's people like YOU that give everyone else a bad name. How could you be so stupid as to let your cats run loose after losing the FIRST cat? But no, you let FOUR cats out to become victims. Do cats everywhere a favor, and don't adopt any more. Being owned by you seems to indicate a very short lifespan.
The average dog is a nicer person than the average person.
In Ohio, we have a large ferral cat problem. They get into peoples trash cans, do their business in their flower beds and are a nusiance. They are legally allowed to trap problems cats and eutanize (sp?) them. Your Humane Society may not have a leg to stand on. As a matter of fact, our Humane Society will lend you a have a heart trap and pick up the cats and euthanize them, unless they have a collar and an ID tag on. As far as dumping them, they would have to have a confession from the offender. If there is no confession then there is no case. I agree with everyone else, keep your pets inside. My cat hates it outside and will run and hide from an open door. But, she has never been permitted to run outside.
i didn't know you can trap cats like that. this is good news for me. my neighbor lets his cats run around like that all the time. i got a $30,000 car that they climb on and dig their claws into. i can take care of it now thanks for the info....
You SHOULD keep your cats inside. You are the person giving everyone else a bad name. I am allergic to cats, you dont think I wouldn't trap them if they came and bothered me. Hello. You neighbor has all the right to trap your cats if they are on his property. As far as the dumping, you have to prove that he did it,then he could get into trouble. Otherwise who knows. Did you try to local shelter? If you cats need outside time, put them on a leash and walk them. Not blame other people for your stupidity.
Ok animal lovers...let's step outside what shizumomma did wrong. This man ABUSED some animals. It was not the cat's fault that she let them out and telling her she's wrong doesn't make what this man did ok. He took somebody's pets and DUMPED them someplace. My neighbor's dog annoys me, I can't walk mine at the same time because she can't control hers and it's a nasty little beast. Sometimes I have to make poor Max stand in the doorway waiting for 10 minutes while she's out if she gets home at the same time as me. That doesn't mean that I should feel free to trap her pet and haul it away the first chance I get. In most states it is ok to have outside cats. It's not safe. There's cars, and predators and many reasons not to. I would never let mine out. But a freaking crazy neighbor who doesn't have enough respect to just tell you that your cats are ticking him off should NOT be something you have to worry about. And as for the jerk who posted something about her 30 thousand dollar car and was happy to hear it's ok to trap. My car is expensive too....get a garage and get over yourself and your big old posessions. I bet you hate birds too. Better start shooting them before the poo on you car. And go find a car lovers website if you don't care about cats.
While he was wrong to take your cats and dump them in another state, it's also possible he didn't even know they were pets. Feral cats are considered a nuisance, and thus it's not illegal to trap them in most places. Since he was just using a trap, it's possible he thought they were feral cats, especially if your cats don't have collars. I doubt Animal control will do anything, honestly, I'm sorry.
That said, while I sympathize with you, I am someone who is completely against cats being allowed to roam free outside, for the same reason dogs aren't allowed to roam free. At one time it was acceptable for dogs to be running free as well, and times have changed.
An outdoor cat is far more likely to contract the deadly disease feline leukemia from feral cats in your area, not to mention being at risk from injury and infections from fighting said cats, cats that have not been vaccinated against rabies, distemper and a variety of other nasty diseases. In addition, outdoor cats are devastating the US population of songbirds and delight in pooping in kids sand boxes and playgrounds. Keep your cats inside from here on out, for their own safety. And I'm not just talking about crazy neighbors.

Never trust a tall dwarf... he's lying about something.
Unless he travels out of state a lot I'd say it is highly unlikely he'd go that far away to dump a cat, let alone do it 3 times. In case he did you could post pics of the cats on sites like this. People from all over the country are on these sites and someone may find one or all of them.
maxandallie i'm an animal lover to but i don't let my dogs run wild. besides i can wipe bird dodo off my car. but taking the scratch out cost money. and i do have a garage but i keep my dogs in it instead of outside. just like the other people said if you love your pets keep them in your house. i have said something to my neighbor about it but he didn't do anything about it. it isn't like i'm going to kill his cats because i wouldn't do that but i don't want them on my car. now if i lived next to you and my animals kept on destorying your things are you just going to let them do it. it don't have to be you car it could something else. i don't think so you will do something about it. and that is what i'm going to do thanks......
I doubt highly that this moron drove your cats that far. If anything he probably drove them out of town which is where I would be searching , after checking the shelters. It might not hurt to call a few other shelters further afield too, in case he's telling the truth. I'm sorry if this is really what he did, because it's just inhumane and outright cruelty to animals. I really hope you find them. Good luck.
Sorry about your cats. If you think that a reward would help get your cats back, maybe offering him a reward to tell you exactly where he took your cats down to the exact spot he drop them, maybe that would entice him to tell you and you could find them. If he is worried about the law offer him an agreement that you won't report it.In writing if need be. The most important thing is to find your cats. I know that bribery is not the right thing at this point it may be the only way. I know that it would be hard to do but apologize to him for making him feel that is the only thing he could do. Then keep them inside if you find them. Tell the moron anything to find them. I know alot of people are going to freak when they read this, but at this point he has no incentive to tell where they are. Hope you find them!!!
I'm a little surprised at some of the responses about letting cats outside. Mind you, if I had a couple cats come up missing I might wonder, but still... My cat goes outside. At first I wanted him to be an inside cat, I tried and tried to keep him inside. With two dogs going out all the time, I think Elliott thought he was a dog and should go out also. Finally I gave in and let him go out. Thankfully I have a wonderful neighbor who loves Elliott. He even feeds him all the time and keeps a chair for him to sleep on. Thank goodness I don't have a horrible neighbor like you. I'm sure different states and areas have different rules, but being a good neighbor, if he had a problem with your cats, he should have been man enought to come to you, not just trap them and drop them somewhere. That in itself is heartless.
What he did was terrible and although I do not have a solution accept for contact an attorney.......I do have one suggestion and please don't take this wrong.....don't allow your cats outside. I have 6 cats they are all indoor and very happy. If they go outside it is on a leash and some just stay inside. One of them, that does not go outside was for a couple of years an outdoor kitty. After she almost died because of getting into a fight with a racoon we decided enough was enough. She has adjusted very well to the indoor life and the rest of my babies are fine inside they always have been. They will live longer and your horrible neighbor cannot get at them. I have to say that I think I would not have been able to control myself if I were you. Take all the action you can to make sure this man pays for what he has done.
You poor thing, sure you shouldnt be letting cats loose but dumping them in ohio is animal cruelty. If the animal guy said he could trap them, that doesent mean litteraly kill them, They are domesticated animals not wild animals
