work. I was driving to my work when I saw 2 loose dogs. One of them looked all matted(very, very matted) and dirty and the other one was a bigger dog with short hair. I stopped my car and I thought "mmmm...if they come to me I'll take them" well, as soon as I stop the vehicle actually the real matted one sat next to it on the curve. As soon as I opened my door it approached me like saying "I'm so glad to see you!" and jumped in the car.
So, I took it home and left water and food out. I palpated it under her coat and I was able to tell it's a girl. As a matter of fact, I think she might be in heat because she left my hand kind of wet. She looks like a poodle mix. I'll post pictures later today or tomorrow. She's about 20-25 pounds.

What will you do with this dog? How will the owners know where to look? Have you called animal control? Also aren't you worried at all about taking dogs in off the street that could have diseses? Do you have a seperate place to quarantine them like the shelter does? I am just curious. I know if my dogs got out I would be grateful if someone got them out of harms way but all of mine are chipped and proper ID on them so who ever got them would know how to contact me. But if they were to loose thier collars I would hope they would end up in a shelter so I could be contacted by thier chip or I would at least know where to look and call. What did you do about the other dog that you didn't save?

Well, first I'm giving her a good bath as soon as I get home from work, she sure needs it!LOL Second, I'm taking pictures of her and post them around my neighborhood to see if anyone recognizes her. Thirdly, I am concerned about her having diseases but that doesn't stop me from trying to help a dog in need. I have her on a separate area till I see what kind of temperament she has and if she is not claimed then I'll take her to the vet. for a check up and possible spaying. I didn't take her to "animal control" because I'm not sure how she'll be treated there and I worry about her getting euthanized.
i want to be like you!!!!LOL,,i have rescued 2 dogs and kept both of them,,i now have 5 animals,4 kids and a husband,,lol since taking this 16 day old puppy,,(i got her when she was 10 hours old),,i have such a new profound look on animals,,dont get me wrong i loved animals,,didnt relize how many were unwanted, then reading all of your heart touching stories about rescuing one or one passing away,,it really touches my heart.. i now want a farm,,,,lol,,and ill get one too. my 15 year old and i are going to start vol. at the shelter,,gotta help as many as we can right???? good luck and keep us posted....

I also would like to know if you have a chip reader...If this dog is lost or stolen..it is deserving to be returned not adopted out as you see fit..i think recsue is wonderul mind you...but picking up strays and not going through proper chanels and notifying any one is not fair to the dog or dog owners...i thought it was the law to contact the animals control if you find dogs in the first place...i hope that you do so..
"so the big dog gets left behind and the little fluffy one gets saved ? aren't they all deserving of someones help ? "
1. I love rescuing dogs but I can't put myself in danger by trying to approach a dog that is reluctant to get close to me. I been in this situation before, when I found Benji he was with a pit bull but...I didn't feel comfortable having the pit in my car and I left him behind. I feel bad about it but I have limits too.
I just think if one was taken then they both should have been. If the big dog didn't want to go then AC should have been called right away instead of just taking in the smaller dog. That bigger dog is probably out there searching for his friend. Anytime a homeless dog is saved is a wonderful thing, but how do we know these dogs are truly homeless. If someone is going to do rescue I think they should register with their local shelters and take in the dogs that are scheduled to be killed that day. Not just cruise the streets and scoop up dogs running loose.
"Besides, ins't that what other rescue organizations due...save the ones that have the most potential to get adopted?"
NO that is where your wrong...that is what shelters do. Rescue organizations take in the ones that are not easily adopted. The ones that deserve the second chance. If you had time to take the one, and your the animal lover you claim to be how could you just leave that other dog without doing anything? Call someone, do something instead of just taking one and leaving the other to fend for himself. In my opinion you are just taking in dogs to make a buck. Not a true animal lover at all and certainly not a rescuer by any meaning of the word!!!!

How can you honestly say such a thing about her? If she was in it to make a buck do you think she would be so strict in adopting them out ? I dont't think so,I say keep up the wonderful thing you are doing..KUDOS TO YOU!

I post in this forum to learn and that is why I wrote down that I had found this dog. Did you know that by the time I adopt out one of my rescues I have already at least spent twice as much with it. I vaccinate, deworm, desex, do dental cleaning if needed, feed them the best food I know about and I am not even going to get into all the work and cleaning I do for them!
I have Spottie in pet Smart training classes to make him more attractive to potential adopters. How can you judge me so harshly without even knowing the whole situation about me? If I'm wrong about something...please enlighten me but in a constructive way...the way you are approaching me is very uncalled for!

How can I say such a thing??? It is very easy she said her self that when she takes in a dog she only takes the ones with the most potential to be adopted. That is what our city ran animal shelters are for. The ones our tax money pays to run. Rescues take in all the other ones that they don't think will get adopted. And rescuers give them the second chance they deserve. Rescuers don't go out looking for the "best" dog that they can get adopted out so they can make money off of it. They do just the opposite of what she is in fact doing.
