I have two chihuahuas and I want to get them registered, but I don't know where to start. I went to the AKC site and couldn't really figure it out.
One is a rescued dog, and the other I bought at a little shop near my parents house for $150(they said she was not registered and that's why she was so cheap.)
I've had them both checked out and all those goodies, and my Female is pregnant now and I want to get the registered. I've never had a dog that was registered in my whole life, so I don't know where to start or how much it costs.....
I'm completely lost on this.
I also want to get the litter registered once they are born.
What makes people think you can just go buy puppies from the pound and pet shops and AKC will magically recognize and register them? The dogs cannot be registered unless the parents of each were registered AKC! Then if both of the parents of the pups are registered, then the pups would be eligible as well.
The fact you got a shelter dog and a puppymill dog and bred them disgusts me! What were you thinking??????
I didn't "breed" them. I was at school and my husband didn't know that my female was in heat and didn't keep the two of them separated and they hooked up. Now she is pregnant.
And my female isn't a puppy mill dog, the breeder wanted to get rid of all the pups that weren't "show quality" so she took them to a little shop in town to sell them because she pretty much felt they were worthless (the owner of the shop knows the breeder and that's the information she gave me.)
I don't appreciate being called stupid for asking a question!! You are one of those that caused me to leave this forum for a year!! I've been back on here for a few months now and until you popped up everyone here has been nice about all of this mess and has given me advice on how to care for her and the pups.
Besides isn't it in the rules that you can't bash a "breeder"?
Rules: *NO ADVERTISING! (NO "Wanted" topics, NO "For Sale" topics and NO *Website promotion). *NO "Vote for my...." or "Vote for me..." topics
~~~~~~~~~~~~ *NO "Breeder/Breeding Bashing"
(Yep, there it is, in plain freaking english!!!!!!!!!!) ~~~~~~~~~~~~
*Topic must be pet related OR forum related! *Please try to use clean language and good grammar. *Turn "Caps Lock" off. *Must be over 13yr old to use.
~~~~~~~~~~~~ *Please treat others with respect.
(And Look at that, it's also a rule to treat others with respect, looks like there are 2 rules you've broken in one post!!!!!!!!!!!!) ~~~~~~~~~~~~
*Respect the Moderators and our staff. *Direct all "ADMIN" questions to the contact page

I don't consider you a breeder. I consider you a back yard breeder. There is a difference, IMHO. Why the heck wasn't the dog spayed and the rescue dog neutered in the first place? No rescue dog should ever be left unaltered. There is a reason they were in rescue. And yeah, sorry, she either came from a mill or a byb because no ethical breeder would EVER step foot or put their puppies in a store. That is disgusting. Get her spayed.

None of those rules apply here. Your not a breeder. And I said nothing disrepectful though the curse you just used, does break the rules! Yes accidents DO happen, I understand that! The 'breeder' that sent their own pups to a 'shop' to be sold because they didnt sell..........I dont call them a breeder either. No good or reputable breeder would ever send them to be sold at a pet shop because they couldnt sell them. Therefore at the very least, she was a BYB....and the pup isnt registered? If she breeds show pups and is responsible why would the pups not have papers?
So many things here are red flags that she is a puppymill dog.
I wish you luck with the litter, as Chis are a hard breed to whelp due to high c-section rates. But the bottom line on your original question, is no....the pups or the parents will not be able to be registered with AKC.
I didn't get them fixed because of a lack of money. I don't have a job right now because I'm in school, and by the time my husband pays our bills we have about $30 left, and that has to go toward gas for our cars.
I got the female from my parents when I graduated high school last year, and the the male was given to me about 3 months ago after my brother saved him from becoming a chew toy for his Pit Bull!!
I plan on getting them fixed when my husband got his income taxes. I was hoping to be able to keep them apart until then, but my husband didn't know my female was in heat and let them loose in the house together.
It wasn't my fault, and it was his mistake. Exscuse me for not having extensive knowledge about this mess, and for being broke!!
Hell, send me the money and I'll gladly get them fixed!!!!
I told you in the first post that I didn't know anything about registering animals so you could have simply said that rescue dogs can't be registered or something like that, you don't have to rip my head off!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
One is a rescued dog, and the other I bought at a little shop near my parents house for $150(they said she was not registered and that's why she was so cheap.) ------------------------------- And my female isn't a puppy mill dog, the breeder wanted to get rid of all the pups that weren't "show quality" so she took them to a little shop in town to sell them because she pretty much felt they were worthless (the owner of the shop knows the breeder and that's the information she gave me.) ------------------------------------------
Ok so which is it,....from a pet shop or from your parents?
the other I bought at a little shop near my parents house for $150(they said she was not registered and that's why she was so cheap.) ------------------------------------------ I said that "my parent's got her for me" because they paid for her.
Actually you said YOU bought her....now I'm confused. Is your mom the breeder?
OK. Let's look at what is at hand here. The deed is done, regardless of how, the breeding took place and the bitch is pregnant.
How far along is she? Are you familiar with whelpings? Are you familiar with the signs of trouble - a whelping gone terribly wrong? You can potentially lose your female and all the pups. I'm not talking mean here, and not biting your head, if I were speaking to you in person, know I am speaking in a calm, nonjudging voice now. These are things you must know, though. You have to know if your girl needs help. Hopefully you will get a couple of pups, mom and babies will all be fine, and you will be able to sell them for a few dollars, enough to at least spay the female. Have her done first, since she could potentially develop pyometra (a fatal uterine infection in dogs) later on. If she is spayed, you won't have to worry about that.
If you haven't already done so, please read up on dog birthing processes. Please. And do feel free to ask questions about this. But do please get the bitch spayed after she whelps. Ok?
Thank you mafiaprincess that's all I needed to know and thank you for not bashing me to death. I appreciate it!!
and thanks to Hopesheltie.(I have looked at a few things on chi pregnancies and birthing and all that, someone gave me a few links on whelping in a previous post that I took notes from. I found out that I live close to a vet, and he has volunteered to help when she is giving birth, but that is the extent of his help.)
lpn169,... I haven't said a word about your mother, so why would you talk about my mother?
Why don't you pull your head out of your @$$ for a second and take a breath of fresh air, then talk to me.
If you want to continue getting personal, my email is email@example.com, email me and I'll give you my number and you can get one on one with me and we can exchange words that way.

Hopesheltie, actually the matter at hand was registration. They inquired about that, and hadnt asked any whelping questions. Just happened in the meantime of answering the registration question they couldnt seem to keep their story straight on where the dogs truly came from that they wanted to register.
I'm not a breeder by any means but I do have two Chihuahuas. If the parents aren't registered then neither can the babies. I hope some people don't take this wrong but I'm sure some will, there are people out there that don't know as much as others in some things so when a question is asked there is not any reason to be so rude to the person asking the question. There may come a day when you're the one asking the questions instead of answering them.
Is there anyway to regester a dog through AKC that was not regestered? For some reason I though they had dog shows and after winning so many they would regester the dog. I dont know were i got that from the be honest.
You cant regester them AKC you can through other places, I think CKC has you mail in a pic and maby a note from the vet. something like that.
do you ahve pics of your dogs? Id love to see them (Im a pic freak lol)
lpn169,... I haven't said a word about your mother, so why would you talk about my mother? ------------------------------------------ Ok, now your being childish. I simply asked if your mom was the females breeder? You couldnt seem to answer straight about where the dog came from, first a pet shop, and you bought her, then you got it from your mom, then when I asked which it was the pet shop or from your mom, you changed to your mom bought it for you...................?
In trying to clarify, I only asked if your mom was the breeder...how did you manage to turn that into a kindergarten argument?
lpn169,... You were trying to make it seem that my mother was the "horrid breeder" so the kindergarden thing is all on you dear.
My mother and Father got my female from a little store in their home town for me when I was graduating HS, I was there with them so I picked her out, I said I bought her because just because she is mine, I don't know exactly why I said I bought her, but I did, so get over it.

Monkey.. a spayed or neutered dog can get a number to participate in sports with pics and proof of altering. In the real CKC, you need pics, vet signature, why your dog isn't registered, microchip they endorse and proof of altering for a PEN to compete in sports.
