There is nothing wrong with designer dogs. They make jsut as cute smart and healthy if not more than purebreds. Every dog came started as a mix and it doesn't matter how many years ago, So your saying there's no hope in trying to create another dog mix? Shelters are just as overcrowded with purebreds than mix breeds and no purebreds do not go sooner small light haired dogs go fastest. Do your research I did mine. There are just as much irresponsible breeders of mix breeds as their are of purebreeds GET OVER IT. I think chihuahuas are ugly and labs are over hyper but im not going to sit here and whine about it. Claiming to be responsible and then bashing others that like them. If you like them or mix breeds go ahead and if you dont, dont buy them no body is forcing you to. If you have a big problem with irresponsible breeders then try to get a law passed sayin taht if you want to breed your dog they need to be liscensed. Dont just sit on the computer and bash others, get a life!
You did your research? Well, I work at a shelter. And I can tell you that there are VERY FEW purebred dogs that come in there. The last one that came in got adopted within 1 week. There are TONS of mixed breed dogs that have been there for years. And being a mixed breed also does not guarantee that it is going to have better health. Sure, it could get the good qualities of each breed. But it could just as easily get the bad qualities of each breed.
I think mixed breeds are super cute. But I also think that's a common misconception on this site. People think that the members are opposed to mixed breeding, when really, they're opposed to mixed breeding for the wrong reasons.
I have gone to petshops where they will have a Pom mixed with a Poodle, and instead of saying that, they will put: "Pomapoo". As soon as someone asks about it (saying they have never heard of that 'breed'), they are told they are 'rare'. But there is nothing rare about mixing two breeds of dogs. I think that is what gets to people. Because, since these people say they're rare, they trick people into thinking they are worth more, when they're worth just as much as any other dog. And so these innocent people that don't know a lot about dog breeds shell out the 1,000 thinking they are getting something that no one else has. They don't get it because of the temperment it could have, or because it would be a good fit for their family. For them, it's all about it being that 'rare and expensive' dog. As long as people don't try to trick people, and responsibly breed their dogs (genetic testing, etc), I don't really see the issue.
There are at LEAST 10 pages on Google of threads about designer dogs and breeders. Just type in designer + this url.
Texas, perhaps you should look into the previous discussions to see that a good many of the folks who are "anti" are that way for logical reasons. It is not simply a matter of visiting this site and bashing others. There has been a great effort to EDUCATE.
there is nothing wrong with "designer" handbags either. except they are far overpriced and are no better than their generic counterparts. BUT because they have a "designer" tag on them, people are paying ridiculous prices . its all about the money. if you are going to sell mutts, then advertise them as what they are mixed breed mutts. nothing more, nothing less. do NOT put the word designer in front of the name. when doing that you are using the dog as a means to be able to put an outlandish price tag on it.
haha, you actually are whining about other people whining about mix breeds.
the majority of people on here are NOT opposed to mixed breeds, but the fact that people breed them without proper genetic testing and then market them as something grand and getting loads of money off of them.
it doesn't do anything good for the dog itself. it's a crapshoot in matters of health and temperment because you're messing with the genetics of a breed.
granted, of course, there are people who breed purebred dogs improperly, but designer dog breeders as a rule of thumb just never test for anything and breed all willy nilly.
and they are NOT breeding to make a new breed, they're just breeding 2 breeds together each time to make cute puppies. if people were TRULY interested in making a new breed, they would invest at least 20 years of careful selective breeding, as well as the money.
Why would I want to pay thousands of dollars for a mixed breed when I can go to the animal shelter and rescue a mix for a whole lot less.People think that designer dogs are better but I see them as a way for someone to make extra money by calling them designer. If i breed my friends rotti with my doberman and call it desinger you going to pay more money for it knowing you can go to the animal shelter and rescue the same mix off of death row???I am not against mix breeds but I am agaisnt making them mixes for more money than reasonable.

There is absolutly nothing wrong with designer dogs, but what is wrong is that we already have a lot of breeds out there for ALL our needs and we already have a lot of work we have to do to preserve the ones we have that we don't need more.
The dog population is already so great. Adding another breed means more dogs... we dont' need that when to many are killed everyday because there are not enough homes or people willing to take them.
If you want a mutt, go to the shelter. Don't design one expecially for yourself. If you want a dog ment for something, look at the options you already have. You want a dog that does not shed? Well get a poodle or Lhasa Apso. Don't cross a poolde with a pug because you want a dog that does not shed. Get the poodle. If you want the pug, well deal with a bit of shedding.
People just need to realize what they are doing. By breeding MUTT because face it, that is what designer dogs are, but they are given a fancy name so people can make more money. But anywho by breeding mutts you are killing the chance other dogs had at finding a home.
Well People are ignorant but i do volanteer work at the Houston SPCA and 1/2 of those dogs are purebred
"Why would I want to pay thousands of dollars for a mixed breed when I can go to the animal shelter and rescue a mix for a whole lot less.People think that designer dogs are better but I see them as a way for someone to make extra money by calling them designer"
Exactly nobody is forcing you to do that and u dont have to. And designer bags are better than the generic brand. ANd yes ive been a member for a little while and anytime somebody mentions something about designer dogs there are always a few that whine about it. like the post on chugs the topic was that they needed more information on chugs and you turned it into why would you want that and how your ruining the breeds
If the designer mutt breeders did anything like a good breeder of purebreds did, there would be far less reasons to say anything.
But as long as the majority don't health test, use the crappiest breeding practices like breeding under 2 yr olds, and breeding every heat and offer guarantees that make petland's look good, then yes, people have a lot they can say, and all of it is perfectly reasonable.
